Poor business
On Thursday August 17, 2009 Ori Van Lines arrived at my grandmother's home in Sunnyvale, CA to pick up furniture. My grandmother made the initial contact with Ori Van Lines, and then she asked me to work out all the details of the move. I contacted Eric Tucker prior to the move to inform him of the address and contact numbers of all the people involved in the move. Some of the load picked up in Sunnyvale was delivered to my brother, in Roseville, Ca; then more of the load was delivered to me in Sacramento, CA; and finally the remainder of the load was to be delivered to my mother, in Sonoma, CA. The movers arrived in Sunnyvale at 12:30pm, and picked up the load. While in transit to Roseville, CA they were involved in an accident on the freeway (Solano CHP report number 0827091500936514815). The movers did NOT mention this accident to my brother or me when arriving at our homes. I found out about this accident when I called Ori Van Lines at 9am Friday morning. Upon arriving in Roseville, CA they dropped off a bedroom set with my brother. One wooden drawer knob was broken off of the nightstand and there was a scratch in the piece. Then the movers proceeded to my home in Sacramento, CA. They wrapped all the furniture they were to pick up at my home, and then started bringing in the furniture brought from Sunnyvale. There was extensive damage to some of this furniture. Four of the five kitchen chairs were destroyed and the fifth chair scratched. Wooden legs were shattered, screws were ripped out causing more wood to shatter. The granite topped kitchen table also had serious damage. The wooden area beneath the table top was partially separated from the granite top and an approximately 20 inch section was completely broken. The bottom base of the table was also nicked and scuffed. The bottom of one of the bedroom nightstands was falling off on one edge. While moving furniture out of my bedroom the movers hit my wall and shattered an outlet cover. I was standing there when it happened and heard it break and heard the pieces fall to the tile floor, and the two movers made no apology for this damage. The drivers expressed shock about all the damaged furniture and were sorry for the damage. When I asked if they could contact a supervisor for me they said no because it was after business hours. One of the movers said something about driving fast and hitting bumps along the way, but did not say there was an accident. I took pictures of all the damage while the movers were still at my home and later that night I emailed those pictures to Eric Tucker my contact at Ori Van Lines. After seeing all the furniture damage upon delivery at my home I refused to allow the movers to continue the move to Sonoma. At that time I thought they were completely incompetent and/or terrible drivers and I wasn't going to risk more damage. The next morning Eric Tucker replied to my email telling me he had never seen damage so extensive in one of their moves and told me to contact customer service to resolve the issue. At 9am I called Lindsey at Ori Van Lines customer service number. At this time she told me about the accident and gave me the phone number to call the third party claims company. She also told me that the company owner Ido Shtrauss was horrified with the amount of damage and would personally take care of making sure the claim was compensated to cover the cost of the damage. I was also told they would be having a meeting Monday morning about my incident and would discuss the proper amount of reimbursement for the last leg of the move that was not completed. Shortly after 9am I spoke with Diane at Anthem Claim Management. She directed me to the online claims form and explained the process to me. I filed a claim and at the end of September received the claim resolution back from Anthem. They recommended $186 which doesn't come close to covering the $820 I've spent to repair the furniture. It also doesn't cover the reimbursement of moving costs for the Sacramento to Sonoma leg of the trip. Since November 3rd I have been repeatedly trying to resolve the issue with Lindsay and Ido. I have emailed, faxed and called and I am never given an answer. So, now at this point I will deal with the BBB and possibly small claims court. What a nightmare. While many people may have wonderful experiences with Ori Van Lines, my word of warning is don't work with them because if something does go wrong their customer service to resolve the issue is terrible. No one seems to care or put any effort into coming to a resolution.

While many have had a positive experience with Ori Van Lines, that was not my experience. First of all, they misrepresent the true costs of moving. They moved me from San Jose to El Sobrante Thanksgiving weekend, and the final cost was much greater than I expected.
I'll start with the good things about the company. They were friendly and efficient and got my household (2 bedroom apartment) loaded up pretty quickly. I started to say they were on time, but since they told me they would arrive between 7-9, it would be hard to be late. This actually irritated me a little because I was told they would be there at 8 then when the dispatcher called to confirm, he said between 7-9. They showed up at 8, having me sit there for an hour waiting for them since I had to be there at 7 (spent the night elsewhere).
Their speed was the best thing about them. They weren't worried about stringing out the hours, though, because what they lost in hours, they made up in packing fees. I had $438 added to the bill for packing fees. I told Tom, the person who set up the move, what glass and mirrors I had that needed extra protection. He told me the cost would be about $70 extra. As others have said (Yelp), once they get you there and in the midst of moving, they have you in a position where you can't really argue. I think packing materials is where they really make their money.
My second biggest complaint is Joe (not as sure about his name) broke some of my stereo and video equipment. I didn't unplug and transport myself my TV, DVD player, receiver, and CD player. I thought they would be safer with the movers. When Joe unplugged everything (yes, there were a lot of wires), he just ripped some of the wires out (only explanation), ruining a tri-axle speaker cord that cost $112 to replace. He also just tossed my equipment on the floor in a pile. (I found some of the components upside down on the floor. ) The reason I noticed was when he started telling me how much EXTRA it was going to cost to pack (yes, they required extra packing) all my components, I decided to move everything except the TV myself. In hindsight, I should have called to his attention the way he tossed my equipment around.
I just got around to hooking my components back up (had the TV going and hooked up to cable earlier) last weekend. That was when I found the broken $112 cord. I also haven't been able to get my receiver and CD player/speakers to work either. At this point, I'm not sure if he broke one of the components or I'm just not hooking it up right (never had a problem before). The point is the way he treated my equipment. He also lost some of the pegs that support the shelf in the TV cabinet and lied to me about it; he said he left them in SJ. I never saw them again so now can't use the shelf.
I did notice that once everything was unloaded, Joe rushed me to sign a statement that I had received everything in working order. In hindsight, I would have added to the comment section as far as I could tell without hooking everything up.
If you decide to use them, I would have them come out and give you an estimate on exactly what is going to take extra packing. I would not use this mover again.

WORST EXPERIENCE
This was hands down the WORST experience I have ever had with any company. This moving company misrepresented their costs, process, time frame, and several other crucial details. The movers that came to load up my stuff broke 2 vertical blinds, repacked many of my boxes and charged me almost $300 for tape and 3 cardboard boxes. They also demanded additional deposit money on the spot (thankfully I had extra cash on hand) My stuff was unloaded in a warehouse and sat in San Jose for 5 days before being sent off for delivery. When I tried to call the dispatch center to check up on my load, I rarely was able to get through and the woman at the center was extremely uninformed, rude, and unprofessional. Finally I got through and was told I'd have my stuff on THursday so I took the day off. 3:45 on Thursday rolls around and still no driver. After 5 attempts I get through to dispatch only to find out they were tracking the wrong driver and my stuff was actually still several days away. Finally 19 DAYS after pick-up, my stuff was delivered 2 hours later than the given window.
Everything about this process was stressful, unprofessional and a BAD expereince. DO NOT WORK WITH THIS COMPANY under any circumstances.

Horrible service
Service was not given as stated by sales rep before the movers arrived. The day the movers were to arrive, Joe, the driver called and said he was lost and his paperwork stated the wrong city. They showed up 2 hrs late. Then they were in a small white truck with only 2 laborers to load. I asked where the big truck was and the other movers that we had been promised, and was told, this is the way we do it. We had packed all the items to go to another town 45 min away, but needed help to pack the house for the items that would go to storage and then to another state. The 2nd truck did not arrive until after lunch. They ran out of stickers. Joe added items to the inventory list that were small and likely to get lost rather than packing them with larger items. He listed items in a foreign language so now we do not know what they might have been. The smaller truck to go to the local move was not finished loading until 6:30 pm that day. The driver was told to follow me to the new town so he wouldn't get lost. He drove like a maniac, talking on his cell phone without a bluetooth or wired headset the whole way which is against the law. Four times he swerved off of the highway and put himself and other drivers in danger. I called my husband so he could inform the foreman at the house that the driver was driving erratically. Joe must have finally reached the driver because when we got to the destination, the driver became abusive to me and was dropping several items and breaking them. I called my husband again so he could inform the foreman. Nothing changed. It was Saturday so I could not call the Ori van lines office as they were not open. The 2nd truck did not finish loading until almost midnight. It was over 15 hours before they finished loading and packing. I had asked them several times if we could continue the following day, but was told by Joe, that the trucks had to be used on another job the next day. My husband was told by Joe that we used "too many boxes and that we would have to pay for them. We had to put the extra charges on a credit card. Our original estimate was $3600 and they ended up charging us $11808! Then Joe asked my husband for a tip! We felt that we had been abused all day and then were forced into giving them a tip. On top of that, we paid for lunch for the crew and provided them with a case of water. They acted like they were owed those things. I have never seen such poor attitudes. We never saw the bill of lading nor the weight bill so we have no idea what the weight really was! When the shipment arrived in another state two weeks later, we had extensive damage and stolen or lost items. It was a subcontract driver, not an ORI van lines truck or driver like promised. Any time I called the office manager for an explanation, she was unresponsive, denied any wrongdoing on their part, and gave me no resolution for any problems. After going over the inventory list again, we are still missing over 60 items and boxes. We think we know which items never showed up. The delivery driver tried to give us someone else's room rug and I had to tell him 3 times it was not our rug. It was like he wanted to get rid of it! This company has not exhibited good faith and I will not recommend it to anyone. They will not provide you with any of the required items (by law, I might add) and will not follow through with trying to find lost items. The worst movers we have ever used in over 60 years of military and civilian moves!

Moving Nightmare - Avoid ORI
I moved from Santa Clara, CA to Philadelphia, PA in July. They arrived 8 hours late to pick up my belongings and delivered my stuff 7 days late. They said they would arrive 8am on a Sunday and they eventually arrived at 8pm. It was raining and they said they couldn't move my stuff all the way into my apartment so they just left it all outside, on the curb, in the rain, at night, by myself. Before they unloaded, they made me sign all the paperwork. I found out after the fact that I signed off that everything was received. Which it wasn't. They completely lost my bicycle, a mirror, a painting, and a chair. And they left me with a few of someone else's things that were also on the truck. And, most of the stuff was damaged. They wrote on everything, including nice lamps, with permanent pen. Some furniture was obviously dropped because the corners are smashed or now the frame isn't square. My TV stand was flattened. My computer chair cushion was broken off the chair. Many things had to be thrown away due to the damage. Other stuff was duct taped together... luckily I'm only a student and the permanent marker and scratches on everything is better than nothing for now. But it will all have to be thrown away when I move again... who is going to want such damaged stuff?
They 'searched' for my missing stuff for weeks and then finally gave up and said I had to submit a claim with a 3rd party. They were not apologetic at all. No word on getting reimbursed for anything that was damaged or missing. I guess it's my loss for trusting them.
Not to mention the 50% extra charges, $5/role to use their tape which they use very sparingly.

Poor Customer Service, Extensive Damage
Over the years, my husband and I have moved at least twenty times on military moves all over the world and 6 times since he retired. We are in our 60's and believed all the reviews on this website that Ori van Lines was a reputable company. We were directed to the website by Meleah Meier, the account representative who actually sold us on this company. She promised this company had their own trucks, promised an 18 wheel truck would be available to load our items from our home to the truck and promised there would be no problem for our major bulk of furniture items would be in storage for 2 weeks before we could leave for AZ to accept delivery. She promised hat their company handles mutilple locations moves all the time and it would be no problem to sort out items in each room that would be going to 2 different locations. None of these things happened. The day the movers were to arrive, Joe, the driver (and I found out later he was the foreman) called and said he was lost and his paperwork stated the wrong city. They showed up 2 hrs late. Then they were in a small white truck with only 2 laborers to load. I asked where the big truck was and the other movers, and was told, this is the way we do it. Terrible
Terrible! I was quoted $845 and final charge was over $2100.
They picked up my stuff in a 16' budget rent a truck in Los Angeles and showed up to my place in DC two weeks late and brought an 18 wheeler. An 18 wheeler won't fit down many residential streets in DC, much less my one way street.
That's where $400 of my extra charge came in. For them having to carry everything a block to my apartment. They really don't give you much choice once they have all your stuff.
The quote was bogus as well as the online reviews, which is obvious only now that I've read the reviews here. I should have done more research.

rogue moving company gone wild! Unscrupulous
Ori Van Lines, Inc., is to the American consumer what Bernie Madoff was to the American investor! On March 27, 2009, I had to move from San Francisco, CA to New Jersey. Like most people, I decided to check out their reviews. Most reviews seem positive because apparently a routine practice at this company is for their employees to write fake reviews. It's the only way they can still be in business. Anyway, I called the reservation line and spoke to Ms. Natalie Blatt who gave me an excellent quote of $975.00 for a cross-country move. I had no elevator in my apartment and two flights of stairs to carry household goods. The reservations office told me I would get two free flights of stairs for the move. However, in Ori Van Lines fantasy world, a flight of stairs equals (seven steps). They charged me for every extra step - total amount $225.00 - just for walking up and down stairs. I figured I didn't want to move the stuff myself so I agreed to the charges. The reservations office also told me that packaging would not be included in the price. I thought, no problem, I went out and bought about $100.00 worth of boxing materials. I spent a week with my wife packing all my fragile and not so fragile things in my boxes. The only things left after we boxed all of our household goods from a studio size apartment were cushions and non-fragile items. When the foreman showed up on the day of the move he told his workers to box everything that was not in a box. These were my cushions and non-fragile things that did not need to be packed. After the foreman had his way and finished packing all things he wanted to pack the price for (packing materials alone) came to $757.00. I don't know where these guys buy their boxes but maybe they should consider changing their provider. $30.00 a box sounds a little excessive. Also, the reservations department told me that I would only have to pay 60% of the price of the initial quote ($975.00) on the day of the move. Yeah right! The foreman that they send to your home on the day of the move, whose name is Joe, and is prominently displayed on the Ori Van Lines website wearing a grey shirt and looking like a nice guy, this guy is only there on the day of your move to con and swindle you into paying more. Case in point. When Joe the foreman arrived on the day of the move he shows me standard paperwork and goes over all the terms that I have agreed to with the reservations department. Everything sounds good at first, except he tries to squeeze in a on flight of stairs only offer, but I have him call the office and he reluctantly agrees to two flights of stairs. Then he has me sign and initial in all the places that he knows is necessary to complete his misrepresentation and ripoff act. This, of course, is under the impression that you are agreeing to the initial terms negotiated with the reservation office - 60% of $975.00. He leaves blanks throughout the forms with your initials and signatures. Then he says, I have to go weigh the truck to get you away from the forms and divert your attention. While he's out weighing the truck, his assistants keep boxing everything in sight. Then Joe the foreman returns with the truck and has the assistants load the truck. Then he decides he needs to revise the original estimate. Bottom line, after he loads my truck and it's waiting outside, and I have a cross country drive to attend to, he quotes me a new price of $2558.00 based on his visual inspection (not actual weight) of my items. I was surprised to say the least, I had never met anyone who could weigh things by sight! Go figure. Anyway, what do you think happens next? He calls the office, they tell him to take whatever I have, I write a check for $600, then they make me write a post dated check for $1244.00. Total - 60% of $2558.00. By the time my goods arrived in New Jersey, I had to pay a total of $2874.60 or Ori Van Lines would not ship my household goods. Ori Van Lines currently has 16 major complaints with the Department of Transportation & the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. They also do not have a license to operate in the state of California. The public utilities commission of California told me their status is pending. They cannot move things inside of California and interstate moves are outside the jurisdiction of California. I don't understand they moved my things from San Francisco, CA to San Jose, CA? Isn't that an intrastate move (within California)? So just for the record, Ori Van Lines is operating under no license in the state of California. What more proof do you need? They are located in San Jose, California, their fleet consists of only one truck and they move things from your home in California to San Jose, California before moving your things across state lines. They also drive your things to weigh stations in California. That's a move within California. The Public Utilities Commission should definitely have another look at this company.
Also since Ori Van Lines also has a fleet of only one truck, your things do not reach their destination on their truck. This means that they use agents from origin to destination and your household goods are moved around quite a bit. Many of my things were damaged in transportation and they of course delivered late, but still Ori Van Lines claims they want more money from me. Go figure? I have been so affected by this, I started my own advocacy company against rogue movers. Buyer beware, this is a matter of public concern to all planning a move in CA. What else could I add. Well the foreman that they sent to manage my move was a complete sissy. At one point he screams at me from a half block away and tells me to come over. When I ask him what he needs he asks me, do you think I am a donkey? I ask him why? He says the box of books, yes books he's carrying is too heavy and he hurt his back. I say, yeah I know, that's why I hired movers. Then he tells me to try and pick up the box and set it in the truck and complains some more about not having room to park and yada, yada. I just got tired of hearing a grown man cry like a little school girl and I picked up the box myself and put it in the truck. Then I told him maybe the company should give him a safety belt for his back. He says, no I've moved couches on my back before. Well what do you want me to do about it then? I say, look just load the rest of the truck okay, that's what I'm paying for. I'm sorry, I'm from New Jersey where men are real men not guys who expect to be felt out on their feelings. A mover is supposed to be a big guy who can move stuff around kind of like a construction worker. You know a real bad ass with some cool tats not some schmuck who cries when his panties fall off when he has to lift a box of books. Bottom line, don't hire these guys if you want to have a good move, they are all out to get your money once you put ink to paper and they shape the rules as they go along. It's a shame the federal government lets them get away with this stuff. Also, after reading and rereading the law. It appears they have charged me above the limit and now they owe me money. Something they will no doubt deny because in their mind everyone owes them money. I feel sorry for people who actually want to make a decent living in this industry because sadly it makes legitimate movers look bad.

I hope I will save one soul
Come on, you got to be kidding me, even an idiot can understand this pattern. all five star reviews with not even one unhappy customer??!! Ori Van lines must have a full time review writer that write reviews every day using different e-mail accounts. I can't believe yahoo is allowing this open scam. I am reporting this to yahoo and have this misleading reviews removed. after becoming suspicious about this patterns; i did a back ground search with this seemingly great company and found out that they been in business for about a year already have around 20 BB complaints(Reasearch shows that only 1 out of 10 customers take extra efforts to complain) so they must have angreed of almost each customer they moved. and is owned by Israelis--- huh isn't that the same people that scammed me twice in two different occasion. if you do your research you will find out that most moving companies are run by Israeli con men that will do anythin to dry until your last penny. So people don't be fulled by this company, they don't even have a the license required to do moves with in the state of California. I hope I saved at least one soul, I don't have the time or the money to hire a full time review writer like Ori Van lines does

they are by far the best movers I have used in the CA area.
I used Ori Van Lines for our move a couple of weeks ago after booking a move with another company and finding out 1 week before our move that they had no record of our appointment. I called ORI after reading all of the great reviews they got and they were able to squeeze me in on the same date I originally scheduled with The other company.
Our move was scheduled for 2 on a Friday afternoon, they ended up getting their at 2:30, but they called well in advance to warn me they got tied up with another move and were running late, but this is to be expected when you are scheduled as the second or third move of the day on a busy weekend for moves.
Their prices are extremely reasonable, and they do not try to rip you off by wrapping up everything and then charging for it without asking your permission, as has happened to me with another moving company. They explained everything as they worked, so there were no surprises. The guys were extremely friendly and worked diligently through the entire move. They were also careful with our things and nothing was thrown around or damaged.
We were originally quoted $333 ($111 an hr for 3 hours) to move things from two different apartments into one (which is a great deal to begin with). They ended up only taking just under 2 hours, so we paid under what they quoted us, but I was so happy with the service that I tipped them the difference. It was also convenient that they carry a credit card machine so you can pay right there with credit or debit instead of cash. I would highly recommend ORI VAN LINES, as they are by far the best movers I have used in the CA area

I recently moved from CO to CA and this is the first time my husband and I had hired movers. We figured we were too grown up to ask our friends to help us move, and we really just wanted to get the job done right! I was surprised when I started calling around - moving is expensive!
So, I resorted to my personal favorite, Craig's List, for options and found Ori Van Lines. The owner, answered my call and gave me everything I needed to know about scheduling the move. His team was incredibly reasonable, showed up on time, was very respectful of our things, and didn't lowly gag around! We had the whole move completed in less time than expected and everything was done just right - including the movers disassembling and then reassembling a few pieces of furniture when we arrived at the new place.
I have since recommended Ori Van Lines to a friend who was equally pleased with the service she received (whew!) As a result, I would highly recommend ORI VAN LINES for your next move.

the REAL Best Mover!
Ori Van Lines rocks!!
From the beginning, ORI was a pleasure to work with. We were nervous about having to spend so much on moving, but after the horror stories we'd heard, we figured Ori was our best shot. And the people at the company were really attentive and honest--they pride themselves on treating their customer's right. That may sound like just a slogan, but in this case, it certainly seems to be true. There were no hidden costs, no sudden "adjustments" to the estimate, and the team that moved our stuff was EXCELLENT. The crew was really the best--prompt, quick, careful and nice.
We were done moving all our stuff by about 1PM--a MIRACLE! True, we had most things packed, but they handled everything that needed extra care; the guys even moved all my plants with nary a leaf disturbed. All our boxes and trunks and shelves and furniture, and only one wine glass broken--and I'd packed that myself, so it was most probably my fault. We would use them again in a heartbeat, if we were ever going to move again...which we're not, of course. Moving may be awful, but ORI VAN LINES made the actual moving day a real pleasure , thank you again ORI VAN LINES, the REAL Best Mover!

It's a breeze
I moved with Ori van Lines at the 25th of February 2009 from CONCORD CA to Columbia KY and I want to tell you about them. Have you ever tried using Ori Van Lines? It's a breeze. The next time you have anything to transport or maybe need to relocate, I strongly suggest you call up this moving service, for in our opinion it's simply the best. You may be wondering what in the hell is so special about Ori Van Lines? Well, the truth is that there is so much going for them that it's difficult in four hundred words to say all one would like to say about them. First, let me begin by saying that this moving service is quite extraordinary. From the moment you make contact with them they provide with you so much help and attention you wonder whether they haven't mistaken you for the Rockefellers or some other top celebratory. They are so polite and understanding and they invest so much time in your request that you feel they are working for nothing. However, you don't get the impression they are fawning or being amateur in their approach, for everything they say and do is really top professional and very sophisticated.
Ori Van Lines waste no time in coming round to you to detail all the necessary goods, assets and objects to be delivered to the destination. You are then offered a series of package options which are really very inexpensive. The entire service is insured perfectly with really very satisfactory premiums, and the team involved is a collection of wonderful professional guys who know what they are talking about. They dont allow you to lift a finger, everything is carried out in perfect timing, efficiency and professionalism. They keep noise down to a minimum and all is executed speedily. They are not the sort of movers who lounge around the home asking for, or hoping to be offered, cups of teas or coffee. They bring with them flasks of beverages and announce beforehand that they are well equipped, and so require nothing from the customer. Ori Van Lines are so brilliant all you want to do is double the fee, but even here there are no options.
The only request they have is to spread the word that they are the very best in moving services. So all they really want from you is to tell you friends and family that a special moving company is in existence and would love to have their custom at any time for any distance.

so impressed
I was really impressed with Ori Van Lines. The office was helpful, polite & professional. I was slightly apprehensive initially as I had read some mixed reviews about the company. But their rates are awesome and a friend of mine had used them recently and recommended them. We were moving stuff from 2 apartments into one. I have never seen 3 guys move out so many boxes & bulky furniture in record time. Even the extra heavy wine cooler was moved without a hitch. No major dings on any of the stuff and the guys worked quickly & efficiently. Couldn't believe they moved and unloaded everything in 3 hours!
The movers speak to you very politely, so if you speak to them in the same manner , they do appreciate it. Oh yes, they also do like to state their tip, but I was so impressed with the move, I didn't really mind that they asked for more tip. I'd definitely use them again!

Five Stars for sure!
Five Stars for sure!
Ori van lines were extremely nice and very conducive to my schedule.
I needed them to come later in the evening so I wouldn't miss work, and they had no problem with that. I also ended up changing the date on them and they had no issues with that. They made two stops for me to pick up furniture at two different locations and I emailed them a schedule of times and locations where they needed to go and they followed it perfectly! They were great at keeping in contact with me from the time I scheduled the move until the actual move day itself.
I definitely knew I was being taken care of and not scammed by some sketch ball on Craigslist. They were super fast moving boxes and very gentle with all my nice wood furniture. They made sure to set all the wood (and my mattress) on a blanket so they didn't get scratched of dirty. I thought it would be an issue getting some of my heavy stuff down the two flights of stairs, but they both did it with ease. When we arrived at my new house they set my furniture where I wanted it and re-set up my bed and headboard. It took about 2.5 hours to move from two houses into a one bedroom....very efficient!
They were both extremely friendly and I would use them again in a heartbeat. I'll be sure to pass their names along to other friends in the city that are moving.
Very reasonable prices for the great work they did. I never thought moving would be so easy!

Expensive but professional
I had a rather complicated move involving a furniture purchase pick up in San Francisco, my old place on the Peninsula, a storage locker on the Peninsula, and then back to my new 1 bedroom place in San Francisco Stairs at the old place, and elevator in the new place.
I was quoted $150/hr for three men and truck, plus 1/2 hr extra for them to drive home. They estimated 5-6 hours. That seemed like a high price But ORI also provided their own padding material (blankets, tape, and wardrobe boxes. I like the idea of reusing blankets rather than paying for one time use bubble wrap.
I went with Ori Van Lines because they called back quickly and followed up efficiently.
Overall they were amazingly professional, and I felt like they were taking good care of my possessions. Two out of the three movers had years of experience moving, and I think that makes a big difference; they are just used to fitting things through doors without damage and such.
One of the movers was relatively new, and wasn't quite at that elite level. I noticed him nicking the doorframe at my old place a couple of times with furniture, but certainly no worse than would happen if you had friends move.
They charged me a rate of 3 men for $100/hr deducted 15 minutes for when they had gotten lost in the morning a very fair charge, which totaled $625. Adding about a 20% tip, I gave them $760.
The move did underscore why it makes sense to pay a little more for reputable movers. If you hire a day-laborer off craigslist and they throw out their back moving your stuff, who knows who is responsible.

So disappointed and angry
I am very disappointed in ORI Van Lines service and professionalism, starting with Natalie in the reservations office. I spoke with her in the month of February. I liked the price and service quoted to me, which included a 5-7 day turn around on delivery, my belongings would be on a truck alone, and packing materials included. I told her I will call her when I am ready. I called her on March 16th, we confirmed the price and I paid a deposit of $318.00. During this time, she did not tell me that it was a possibility that my move may be subcontracted to a local company. Had I known that, I could have made my arrangements with a St. Louis moving company instead of ORI Van Lines. On March 23rd, at my storage facility is when I find out that my shipment was subcontracted to US Van Lines in St. Louis, MO. I left 2 messages for Natalie informing her that I was upset and on my way to being pissed off. Not only is my shipment subcontracted, but I have additional fees for items not listed on my inventory and packing supplies. Ninety percent of my furniture was not listed on the inventory sheet they sent to US Van Lines. My initial quote of $1593 has doubled, by the end of the fees, my current bill is $3500. At this point I feel that I have been hoodwinked and bamboozeld into a situation that was unfair to me as a consumer. In turn, it left me with no options, but to allow them to load my items. My storage had been cancelled and I had no other place to house my belongings. When Natalie called me back she said this is the first that she had heard of my order being subcontracted and she would try to find out some information and get back with me. Natalie had not called me by the close of business. I called Natalie on Tuesday and Wednesday, she was not in on either day. Thursday March 26th when I called, Natalie was very nonchalant and told me that we had a miscommunication. She said there was nothing she could do for me, because I was subcontracted to another company. I told her there had to be something they could do, because I started with ORI Van Lines. Not once did she apologize or try to rectify the situation, she just said we had a miscommunication. I told her since she didn't want to help me to give me the customer service number. I called, spoke to Lindsey at the customer service office, and explained the situation to her. She asked for the number to the St. Louis location, I gave it to her, she said she would call me back. I hadn't heard from her by the close of business on Thursday. I called Friday, March 27th and the office was closed. I called Saturday, March 28th to speak with Lindsey. She said someone from US Van Lines was suppose to contact me. I asked her why are they calling me when my problem is with ORI Van Lines. She said there was nothing they could do, because I had a contract with the St. Louis company. I told her it started with ORI. I have a contract with US Van Lines, because of ORI subcontracting my order to them, not because I voluntarily chose them. I was forced into a subcontracted company, because my storage was cancelled and I didn't have anywhere for my things to go. I was upset and began yelling, because no one at ORI Van Lines is accepting any fault in this and they are not empathetic to my situation as a customer. Like I told Lindsey, I'm not going to make this stuff up. I was told these things and none of what I was told was true, so yes I'm yelling and fussing at this time. During the time I was yelling, I realized Lindsey hung the phone up on me. I called back and the answering machine picked up. This only angered and frustrated me more. Michael from customer service called and started talking. I was trying to tell him what happened and we both were talking over one another. I told him that I didn't want to hear him right now, I wanted him to hear me. As I continued to talk, I was stunned when he told me to shut up multiple times. I stopped and asked him if he told me to shut up and he kept saying it. I told him, Don't tell me to shut up, you shut up. Shut the f--- up. By this time I am beyond angry, so I hang up the phone. He called back and said they record all the conversations and I hung up again, because I had nothing nice to say to him. If ORI Van Lines record ALL of the conversations, then they should have the initial conversation recorded from Febraury and each subsequent conversation thereafter, not just the ones from March 23th when Natalie had amnesia to what we discussed. I left and went to the library, because my laptop is broken and Natalie was made aware of, to see if I could find the inventory list they sent me in my email. It was not there, neither in my inbox or junk mail. During this time, someone by the name of Ben left me a voicemail. When I returned the call, the office was closed. I left a message for Ben to call me at his earliest convenience and send a copy of the previous email that was sent to me. I am very appalled that it is acceptable behavior for employees to hang up the phone on customers and tell them to shut up. I have never had such HORRIBLE service in my life. I have worked in customer service for a very long time and have NEVER treated a person in this manner, even when they got under my skin. I have always maintained my professionalism. At no point did anyone try to diffuse the situation or express any apologies. I expect monetary compensation due to the financial stress added to me. I hope this situation is resolved before my property is delivered to me and that these employees receive some type of reprimand or job loss. Some things are just UNACCEPTABLE!!!
March 29th, I received a call from Eddie in the legal department from ORI at 7:20 am and he apologized for the poor customer service that I received. He told me that I would get monetary compensation, Michael would be fired once the tapes were reviewed of him telling me to shut up, and a written apology. I said okay, no problem. He called me back and told me that the owner told him to cut me a check for $200.00. This is the monetary compensation that I am to receive. That isn't 10% of the balance I owe or my deposit that I gave them. He asked me if this was okay, I was surprised by the low amount that I said yeah, okay. He then asked, if I would fix the complaint that I placed on the BBB website. I told him that I had not filed a complaint officially, but I posted a review. I told him that I would fix it and left it at that. I felt that he was more concerned with the reputation of the company than being completely concerned with me the consumer. The problem is this isn't the response that he wanted to see. Neither is $200.00 when ORI caused me to lose $2500

best of all
I just wanted to give credit where credit is due. I filled out an online quote for a moving company to move my family from CA to Dallas Texas. After getting 50 calls from moving companies I was totally confused with all the nonsense and different prices and methods in which these companies use to determine prices.
I finally spoke with Ori van lines and they were very helpful and made it easy to understand pricing, best of all there were NO hidden charges and fees.
Our move with ORI went very well and the price was as advertised, they were terrific and there from beginning to end I would highly recommend this company.

I can't thank them enough!!!
I had never used a mover before and poor Chris was subject to lots of questions and calls. He reassured me several times that he'd take care of me, and he really did. Brian also answered many questions. I can't thank them enough!!!
Ori Van Lines did just what they promised. They got me moved from CA to WI in under a day with just one casualty. A mover man accidentally dropped a box when a handle ripped...one lone bowl broke. No big deal at all. FYI, I packed my own boxes and cut my own handles in the boxes, so I may have inadvertently caused the problem myself.
The movers arrived EARLY (I could hardly believe it) and had everything in the truck in under 3 hours. They kept in contact with me via cell phone and made sure to tell me when they were near to my new apartment. They arrived at about 8 p.m., unpacked, and were gone before 11. Talk about hard-working men! Plus, they took extra care to keep the carpet clean (a big deal, considering the carpet is cream-colored). I couldn't believe that I was completely moved in less than a day.
Overall, I had an exceptional experience as a first-time client of a professional mover. I would definitely use Ori Van Lines again.
Thanks again!!!

Bad!!!
I first contacted the company by email, after seeing some decent reviews; I planned a trip across the country and felt it best not to do it myself- although I did not have a heavy load. An assuring salesman took me thru the process well, and explained the rates- which were very good. Although the movers didn't arrive on time, and I was charged more than I was quoted- (for some things I didn't want wrapped, but they insisted on doing)...I didn't complain, as the cost was still reasonable. The movers were pleasant guys, and tipped them generously as well. I had weighed everything beforehand, so I knew the precise weight volume. They called to tell me that the weight was greatly over my estimate, even thougI had already opted to take a larger package than I required. When my things arrived (at a ridiculius hour) some cartons had been smashed...and the contents destroyed. And not everything that I'd sent arrived...ever. Adding insult to injury, the driver defied the contract promise by saying that I would have to pay additional fees for a flight of steps up and for a flight of stairs down from the ground level. I had been told by the salesman that each flight constituted one flight, and that was included in the price. There was no way to contact the company at that hour, and thought I'd never see my belongings again if they were not unlpaded promptly- so I chose to pay the scammers. (I did consider calling the police.) All tolled, it ended up costing 30% more than I'd anticipated. And just by chance, I had the cash, as they wouldn't accept anything else. (That was explained, up front, but the amount was so inflated that I never anticipated needing to have that much on hand) As far as the breakage of items, I suppose that could happen with any company, but it was still upsetting. The missing items were never located, and can't be replaced. Even with all the losses and tacked on extra unwarranted costs, the final price was less that the big name companies, but all the headaches and bad business practices need to be taken into account as well. The defiance of promises and contractual agreements I find difficult to dismiss, and so even if you are moving only sturdy items that won't break- I woud be looking elsewhere.

Horrible, expensive move, items stolen, broken..
We would never use Ori Van lines again and would want to warn anyone who ever goes by the good reviews posted about them. They charged much more than the initial quote, never arrived on time for pick up(made us wait all day without responding to our numerous calls) and we were told that blankets would be used for tv etc but the driver insisted that we purchase bubble wrap and refused to listen to us and we had to pay an extra 500 bucks for the bubble wrap. Moreover they brought a small truck and said all our stuff wouldn't fit in.We had to throw one stand and few plastic baskets. And that was not the end of our woes. The driver called us numerous times asking us to reach the place earlier because they had reached the destination prior to us and did not want to keep our stuff in the storage. When we finally reached the place, to our chagrin, they had brought a big truck with three other people's stuff in it and said the truck could not enter our apartment complex and asked us to pay another 500 bucks because they had to carry our stuff from the main gate to our apartment. They said if we refused they would put our stuff in the storage. We had to pay and then they delivered. And later when we opened the boxes we found our son's playstation missing alongwith our vcr .
So people beware of these thugs!! Our worst moving experience ever!

NEVER USE ORI VAN LINES - CHEATERS
DO NOT USE this company, they are cheaters!!!
They use sub-contracting companies for moves, my electronic items worth $200 were stolen, Leather sofa damaged.
First they qouted very less and on the pick up day, come late and added more cost and drop off some more by the sub-contracting company.
I ended up paying $5000 for a quote of $1694.

thumbs up
We want to give you Ori Van Lines thumbs up. A great job done by the crew.
They arrived on time as scheduled. With consideration the crew used special material to wrap our antiques, they also gave attention to our other furnishings, pausing to ask necessary questions, nothing was done in a hurry, and time was not wasted. After the van was loaded, the driver went over all the paper work with us, this helpful, letting us know exactly what to expect. Most important to us was the follow up and assistance along the way of the office. They were aware we had health and age issues and helped ease some of the anxiety that goes with a cross country move. A special thank you.
We can recommend Ori Van Lines, for a short distance or long distance as was our case; moving from CA to NYC...

very happy
This is the 3rd time I'm using ori van lines and again their service met my expectations. I first hired them for a local within the state few years ago. Then about 18 months ago I used them to move me back California, where I'm originally from. Now I have decided to move back again to MA for a new job. Since I already have used the company for 2 moves and I was happy, I called them again to setup my move. In terms of service the company is great. Communication is excellent, my first moves were managed by Stoil and this last one was thru Annie. My move is now almost completed; my items have been delivered few days ago, so far everything looks great. No damages on the furniture, everything is placed in the desired rooms. All it's left is to unpack the boxes with the kitchen items.
Overall I'm very happy with their service. Stress level during the move was minimal, which to me is one of the most important aspects in one move.

Terrible service
I move about every 4 years and this was the worst moving company I have EVER used.
First they showed up w/ a truck that was too small, so they had to pick up the rest of my stuff later in the week. This caused me to have to get help from friends and relatives to meet the moving company since I had already moved. Second - the furniture they packed was damaged - the broke a kitchen chair and they dropped a desk while moving it off the truck and it is now broken. They also scratched up another desk to the point where I can't use it anymore. Third they lost the hardware to put many of furniture pieces together. They lost the hardware to reassemble my couch, a bed, and my kitchen table - we still haven't found the hardware a week later. Fourth - the price more than doubled from the estimate they gave me - but I was stuck since they more than doubled the price after they loaded the truck. Once they had our stuff, they didn't want to talk to us on the telephone at all. I kept getting the run around. It took many calls to find out when my furniture and boxes would arrive. I WILL NEVER USE THIS COMPANY AGAIN!

Five stars.
When I was younger and more energetic (read: hopped up on ephedrine and rowing crew six hours a day) I could pack up all my earthly belongings and fit them in the back of a Ford Bronco in an hour. But now that I'm older and wiser (also more fat and lazy) the thought of hauling my personal belongings with my own sweat and brawn sounds about as fun as poking myself in the eye. So I thought, "I'm an adult. I'm moving into my own place (totally alone, for the first time.) It's a milestone. I'm getting myself some help."
And boy did I. I narrowed my criteria to Cheap (because I'm still young and poor) and good and I got ori van lines. And they were awesome. $120/hour for three guys and a huge truck. I only had a small studio worth of stuff, so it took less than an hour and a half. The lads were friendly and the craic was mighty. Well, at least I had a great time. But I didn't lift a finger. I'm not sure how much fun they had. But they were nice about it.
They stayed within their estimated time and price quote and didn't mess anything amount of shit I had, and considering I was moving about 20 miles away. All in all, up, and that's all I cared about. I would definitely use them again, but hopefully, I won't have to.
Five stars.

We would like to thank them again
I would like to thank Ori van lines for our recent relocation project which involved a large move from the home we lived in for over 30 years.
We reserved our move in advance and were told that our load dates were to be January 20th or the 21st with a strong preference on the 20th for packing and the 21st for loading. The crew called us on the 18th and informed us in fact that they would be in the area a day earlier than scheduled and would like to begin packing on the 19th if possible. We agreed and they showed up at 7am on the morning of the 19th to begin packing our home up. The driver and crew (4 total people) were absolutely excellent in packing and finished at 6:30 pm. They proceeded to load our belongings on the tractor the following morning and after signing last minute paperwork were on their way. We were told that delivery would be on or around the 27th due to the distance and the fact that they had another delivery and pick up along the route but they would call us when they were a day out.
We received that call on the 25th and were actually delivered on the 26th. The unloading process was seamless and the guys again (only 3 of the men were there to unload) were excellent.
We would like to thank them again for all of their hard work, professionalism, and efforts that went into making our second move in 40 years one that we would certainly recommend to others and will refer them to others in the future.

Of all the moving quotes I received and phone calls and emails I fielded I was most impressed with Ori van lines and the way that they handled their selves during the quoting process.
They explained everything in great detail. Most of the other companies did not mention 75% of what ORI did and I felt comfortable with this company so I decided to roll the dice and reserve his services for February 15th or 16th pick up at my home in St. Louis, Missouri and they told me that they could have me delivered by the 22nd as I needed my belongings for my new job. While they did not guarantee it they stated that the truck was picking me up then delivering a customer in Idaho and I would be the next delivery so 6 days should not be a problem. When they showed up at my house the movers and packers were awesome and fast. And as promised they delivered me in 4 days which was really a surprise and did a great job again during the unloading process.
This company is very honest and maintained great communication throughout and they have one happy customer and I would recommend using this company when moving.

was a great experience
ORI VAN LINES helped move us to Houston 2 weeks back and really did a great move for us.
We were reluctant to hire a company off the internet and considered a few of the large van lines but when we factored costs in we really did not have a choice. We had 2 in house estimates and they were off the chart and well over our budget so we went online and got about 30 more literally and we found ORI VAN LINES on this particular website and went with them due to their great reviews and their price was $1,600.00 less than one of the in house estimates and $1900.00 less than the other. We also received a quote from another moving company for $2,000.00 which after checking them out we found probably 100 horrible reviews about them.
ORI VAN LINES did us justice and provided not only great service but a great price as well and after sorting everything out, our weight was slightly higher than the estimate which added an additional $300 to the original quote which we were informed could happen. All in all this was a great experience as far as moving goes and if we move again we would call them again next time.

Look, moving is a stressful experience. And pretty much nothing online really helps give you peace of mind so I think here's what you do.
Pick a company that has mostly good reviews for the city you are in (or on both ends). Pay for the additional insurance (the 60 cents per pound standard is not insurance). Ask as many questions as possible. Then pray that you get a good crew, cause that is all that is going to matter. And keep the crew happy by buying them lunch and keeping water on hand.
We got a great crew and only one thing was broken (a lamp), that we are working with them to get fixed. So far, the customer service department has been very responsive. I'll upgrade this review to 5 stars once that lamp is fixed. They handled all of our artwork and our plasma TV with care. And we signed the agreed price contract before they started packing or loading so there was never any question that they would honor the price.
This is the second time that ORI VAN LINES has moved me (first was from Philly to New York) and both experiences have been very good. Based on research, it seems that they may be less well run outside of the tri-state area, but certainly for NY area moves, I highly recommend them.
Oh yeah, and their first quote is always very high. So take their first quote and cut a third off it at least. Keep negotiating and you'll get the price you want. Oh, and one more thing - you are more likely to get a good crew if you are moving on an off day (i.e., Tuesday that is not the 30th, 1st or 15th of a month).

my first call!
I will say first and foremost - I have a lot of cr*p. A lot. More than one person should have. The BF had maybe 5 boxes - I had at least double maybe even triple that. And.... I HATE moving. I would rather swim in a tank of piranhas than have to move again anytime soon.
Last week we used Ori van lines to move from a townhouse to a fourth-floor walk up, and it made the dreadful process SO much easier. We were finished packing when they arrived and had everything organized so that they could move with the quickness, as time is money.
We went with the three-man package and couldn't be happier. Sergio and his crew arrived 15 minutes late and apologized up and down the river and told us that our time wouldn't start until the truck was open and ready for some boxes. I will say that Sergio took a look at what needed to be packed, estimated that it would be 3.5 hours and got to work right away.
It was amazing how hard and fast they worked - loading boxes and furniture on their back and walking up and down stairs. They didn't break or scratch a thing.
We provided, water, Gatorade and red bull for all three men, tipped them well and they were so nice and gracious - so it did leave a sad little dent in our wallets. I would recommend Ori van lines for anyone moving within the city. Hopefully I won't be moving again anytime soon, so I won't need them, but if I do, they will be my first call!

Great work
The short: These guys are the real deal.
Their prices are very fair for the work they do. They are hard-working, pleasant and professional. Moving is not an easy or perfect proposition but these guys come as close as it gets to making moving feel good.
The long: We dreaded our move to a new place in July 2008. Our last move, when our worlds collided, resulted in TONS of stuff packed into a small two bedroom Laurel Heights flat. It was truly unbelievable how much stuff we had packed into the place.
ORI helped us move from a smallish flat into a larger home in the city. The packing took one day and the move took another day. ORI's quote was spot-on and he clearly understood how much stuff we had buried in our flat. We have a few pieces of very heavy fine furniture that other movers struggled to get into our old flat. The ORI folks made the movement of these valuable items seem like child's play. Amazing.
Seamus helped us both days of the move and was very helpful. Every member of the moving crew was hardworking and professional.
The packing went well and the charge for packing materials used was very fair. The unpacking proved that these guys did a pretty darn good job of preventing damage. Sure, a couple of minor items didn't make it totally unscathed, but the vast majority of things and everything of value made it there in perfect shape. Finally, our new home is on a narrow road and they had no problem maneuvering the large truck on our road. I've recommended these guys to friends and have only heard positive comments. Overall, Great work

Hired Ori and Best Price showed up!!!
What a joke. I hired ori van lines for my move based on the reviews on this site, based on the attractive price and based on the fast delivery that I was promised by the sales rep.
I was unpleasantly surprised when I opened the door for the movers and seen Best Price!!! I did receive a price offer from best price but declined their offer as I found way to many complaints about them.
I am very disappointed with the way my move went, first If I was interested in best price moving company I would hire them without going through ori. After they did arrive at my home everything changed: the price went up, the delivery was not within 3 to 5 days like I was promised. Very bad company – will not recommend to anybody!!!

ORI VAN LINRS
I would recommend ORI VAN LINRS to anyone.
Over the phone I was given an estimate of 8hrs to move me from a 2 bedroom 3rd floor walk up to a 4th floor elevator building. I had some time constraints in the move that would have seriously been pushed if they had taken 8 hours or shown up extremely late.
However, they called to let me know they were on their way and showed up exactly when they were scheduled. They started off with 3 guys, but they added a 4th right after they started. These guys had been moving into 1 am that morning and it was obvious they were tired but it didn't affect their work at all.
They took no time in getting started and before I know it all 70 boxes that we had packed were in the truck. I'm not quite sure how they can strap 4 boxes of books to their back and go down three flights of stairs, but they did it over and over again. Then there was the furniture, which they seemed to get down just as fast and without any damage that we could find. Just under 2 hours into they move they had completely emptied my apartment and were heading to the new place. Somehow they beat me there and as soon as I got the door open for them they were bring stuff in. They were extremely careful with my stuff on this end and were happy to place things wherever I asked. Paul and his crew were so fast that they were done in exactly 4 hours. This was a very busy moving time but that didn't seem to faze them at all or effect their attitudes.
The ONLY minor issue I had with the company had to do with my initial contact. I talked to a guy on his cell phone out of the office who told me to leave my info on his voice mail and he would call back the next day. He never called back so I called again and talked to a different guy in the office who took down my info. It took them a little while to e-mail me a confirmation, but I did receive it. I also e-mailed them a list of all of the items I would be moving and that was apparently lost in the shuffle, but they truck was plenty big and they had enough guys. If you have similar experiences don't be afraid to call back just to confirm.

Not impressed
I went with OriVanlines because the reviews were exceptional. The process from start to shipment of furniture from San Jose, California to Oregon, was quick and pretty painless. BUT, when the furniture arrived I noticed 2 gashes in the back of the dresser and a small round table needs repair. The driver upon arrival backed the truck right into the drain gutters creating a dent and gash. The piano, fortunately came through unscathed. The person who over saw the movers collect my furniture described them as bulls in a china shop. Would I use them again, not on your life!!!

Everything seemed great until the moving day, when they told me that there were extra fees not contained in the original quote. I had told them I had two motorcycles, and once they arrived, they said the motorcycles have an extra fee (even though they were supposed to have been included in the quote). I then called to speak to the woman in charge, and she ended up yelling at me, telling me that I deserved to pay the extra fees, because my quote was so low. As they were already there, I swallowed the bad taste, and let them move the rest of my things. I paid the deposit in cash and the moving costs (an additional $600 in boxes, tape, and packing, when most of my things were already packed!). However, my next credit card statement, I saw they also decided to bill me in advance for the full move! I called and left several messages, sent emails, etc, all with no response. I then protested the fee with my credit card company, sent in the contract, and had it finally removed. Not surprisingly, this did not sit well with Ori Van Lines, who then told me if I wanted my things, that I had to pay them in cash once they delivered. Fine, I thought, but they then said my weight was way over the quote (even though I itemized my belongings), and I owed them an extra $1200. The final delivery was great, and everyone was very nice. Although after they dropped everything off, I noticed that I had an extra bed and some boxes, and several boxes of mine were missing. I sent emails, called, etc, and have yet to get a response. It has been three weeks. I'd imagine someone would want their bed frame and boxes... and where did my stuff go?!!

5 and a HALF stars
Actually, I'm giving Got 2 Move 5 and a HALF stars.
WHY CAN'T I DO THAT?!
They are not A.They are A+.
Moving s**ks. Oh, sorry -- you already knew that. EVERYBODY KNOWS THAT. Here's my advice for how to make it s*ck less. DON'T...
...ask your friends to help you. They don't want to. They're just going to turn around and ask you someday, and you don't want to help them, either. NOBODY WANTS TO MOVE. NOT THEIR OWN SH*T, NOT YOUR SH*T. Face it.
...rent a truck. You'll give yourself a freakin' migraine driving all over town to pick it up AND ditch your car somewhere while collecting all your poor, guilt-tripped-into-helping-you friends at the same time, all too early on a Saturday. (And if your friends are like me and mine, they DON'T LIKE TO BE IN THE WORLD BEFORE NOON ON SATURDAY UNLESS THERE'S BOOZE INVOLVED. And booze + moving is sketchy...)
...drop more money on renting dollies and furniture pads and sh*t. You think it's gonna make your move easier, but you don't really know what the fxxx to do with these things. You're just burning up more money. YOUR MOVE IS STILL GOING TO S*CK. YOU ARE STILL GOING TO SWEAT. AND BE DIRTY AND EXHAUSTED. AND IN GENERAL, WANT TO END YOUR OWN LIFE.
...take all your poor guilt-tripped friends to the bar after to thank them. See above. This will BREAK YOUR BANK.
Do you see where I'm going with this? Because IF you do all the above, it's going to cost you a LOT of money anyway. And you are still going to go through a LOT of grief. Your move is STILL going to s*ck (have I said that already?). BIG TIME.
Instead, you should HIRE ORI VAN LINES !!!
That's how you make your move NOT s*ck. (Okay, s*ck less. You still have to pack. And unpack.)
They will be on time. Yes, movers can actually be on time. If they're ori van lines.
They will be fast.
They will handle your stuff with tender loving care.
They will be friendly and talk to you about soccer and your shared Eastern European heritage without sacrificing the above...
They will be affordable. Not really much more than what a s*cky do-it-yourself move would have cost you, either. Because you won't have to take them to the bar afterward and empty your checking account in thanks.
Actually, I WOULD have taken these dudes to the bar if they didn't have another move scheduled. They were that good, and that cool, and I was that grateful. And there was soccer on TV that day. So instead I gave them the biggest tip I've ever given any service people, for anything.
See, I AM a nice person! They brought it out in me.
A-FREAKIN'-PLUS!!!

No nasty surprises
We highly recommend this Moving Company (ORI VAN LINES) to anyone.
The great service began when we asked for someone to come down and give us a free quote. Talk about efficiency - same day they sent someone (who is nice, helpful and professional). He came and gave us a very reasonable and firmed quote on the spot. By 'very reasonable' I mean their price beat others movers by a big margin
So you would think we would get a raw deal at this price? Not at all. Both of us considered Ori van lines as the best mover we had so far. Personally, I think big moving companies may charge more because they have an established brand and size, but also because of their size, in my view they are also less likely to provide the kind of personal service and quality control that smaller companies like Ori van lines can offer. It definitely showed in our move that Ori van lines proved that they have these special qualities.
It was a tough move. We needed to move from two locations (one ground floor and one fifth floor walk-up) to a fourth-floor walk-up. Apart from the usual household stuff, we also had to move a professional sound-proof room which literally weighs a ton. Four guys and one large truck turned up on time that freezing morning. Despite the stairs and the weight, they moved at lightning speed, handle everything with care and did it with a smile. We found all of them friendly, nice and professional to deal with all the way till the end. Totally trouble-free!! Nothing broken, nothing missing. The price is excellent. No nasty surprises.
What more can you ask for? We will definitely use them again.

an amazing move
This is a little behind, but the point remains the same.
Late last month, signed a lease for a new place. Problem being, it didn't clear til less than a week before expected move-in. I decided to call movers this time since I'm still new to the city, and the last two times I used a U-Haul I managed to hit something. I call these guys maybe 5 days before I was supposed to move out. They didn't have an opening that weekend except Friday morning (and I called Tuesday), and with only their pickup instead of their moving truck. That said, I didn't have much stuff to move, so that worked for me. And it was kinda my fault it happened this way anyway, so I was fittingly thankful for it.
Tip that pretty much applies to all movers, but still: Make sure you pack your stuff beforehand. This is something I learned living in another city before, but was all the more apparent here. While I practically finished only an hour before they arrived (and I pulled an all-nighter doing so), the movers thanked and complimented me for doing so, and it made the job a lot quicker.
And how quick it was. The entire move, from their arrival to drop off was just over I was amazed at how quick it went. Plus, despite my suspicions at my own capabilities in minimizing total space, they still managed to pack everything, EVERYTHING into that pickup.
A nice added bonus was the friendliness and great workmanship of the two movers. They got along well, and it was rather chummy to say the least. Finally, given the recent economic situation, it was pleasing to see them come at a relatively inexpensive rate. (And the fact that we went quickly kept the rate at a minimum)
If I stay in this city and need to move again, I know who to turn to. These guys were awesome.

a stress-free move
I scheduled a move on Monday to move my two bedroom townhouse and my friend's one bedroom apt in the same day to the same destination.
I chose Ori van lines based on the good reviews , good pricing, and the fact that they didn't do the nickel-and-diming of charging for tape/paper/boxes/etc (which I found annoying). I was quoted $90/hr for a 3-person team, plus a $30 fuel surcharge for the long distance (it would have been only $70/hr for a 2-person team, but I definitely needed a team of 3 for this job). This was a very reasonable rate
Indeed, there were no extras for pkg, tape, etc., so there were no surprises in the quote at the end. The whole thing took exactly 7 hours (excluding 30 mins for lunch, which they said I could deduct from the bill), and they were careful and efficient. My friend and I also did most of our packing beforehand, which saved time. I made sure to tell the lead guy in the beginning that if they did a good job, ended in a reasonable amount of time, and DIDN'T break anything or damage any walls/etc., there would be a good tip for them at the end. I'm pleased with the move and would hire them again. They were very polite.
When I talked with them on the phone to set up the appt they were very polite
The only surprise was that the tip I thought was pretty decent turned out not to be enough. He was very polite about it at the end, but indicated that the tip should be more. So I slowly kept adding a little more money and a little more money until it seemed to be ok
I was a little worried the morning of, since I was told that I would get a confirmation call the day before the move. I didn't get one. So I was relieved and happy that, on the morning of the move, they showed up - not only on time, but 15 mins early. They had no problem finding my little townhouse in the cul-de-sac maze of my complex. Most people get lost.
I would say it was worth it for having a pretty easy-going, stress-free move.

I will definitely call them up again the next time
I've been the girl who moves for many a year. My family stayed in the same town for 12 years, but before that we moved six times before I was four years old.
My family got moved once, but after that it was all me: to my first college apartment, to my second, back to my parents' house, to Germany, back to my parents' house, to my first place in the city; all around ugh. Moving blows. I own two pieces of furniture. All of my belongings fit in two large hardback suitcases, six six-gallon plastic bins, two medium-size (3 cubic feet) moving boxes, and one clothes hanger box. The dream of leaving the office for the big wide world still thrives, so I try to keep my junk to a minimum.
My gentleman-friend, on the other hand, owns an apartment, which is to say, way more furniture than I would ever want to think about lifting. This is why we hired movers. Also because our ages and combined incomes are such that asking friends and parents for their trucks and time is unnecessary and a little immature.
And what movers! Communication with them was constant and timely, and they brought us more than enough boxes and tape. They wrap your dresser so you don't have to take anything out of it (rather, you can use it as another place to pack things), and pack all your clothes in those lover hanger boxes for you, and take care of your artwork as well. I have a pretty sizable dresser we got during the South Korea years, and recently it acquired a busted leg. These fine gentlemen took extra-good care of it, and once they had it in the spot I wanted it, told me how I could fix it.
They were faster than expected, friendly, professional, and speaking from my biased (girl of Irish heritage) perspective, very good-looking fellows. I would hire them again if only to watch them move heavy stuff around, and listen to they talk. Gross, I know.
The ultimate point is that ORI gentlemen are capable, careful, and really a pleasure to work with. If I weren't beset by other exorbitant moving costs I would have tipped them more. At least I can write this good review, which may help give them more business, and I will definitely call them up again the next time (god forbid) I should have to move again.

Confused
I have recieved quotes from many moving companies during my search for a moving company and am a bit confused. My dilema is that I found a moving company based out of the Bay area where I was moving from named Ori Van Lines and I read hundreds of great reviews for this company and was quoted a little over $1,000.00 to move from California to Virginia. Every other company with the exception of 1 were well over the $2,000 mark which made me a little nervous. Upon researching Ori Van Lines further I found out several things about them including the fact that wehen they quoted my move on December 2nd they were under suspension by the federal motor carrier administration and that raised some red flags. Even if they were as great as the hundreds of reviews I read about them I am not sure I want an unlicensed company moving my items. Next I found out from the local Better Business Bureau that the company was less than a year old (9 months old to be exact) and that even worried me more. I can't figure out a few things, first, if they are under a year old and already have 10 complaints with the bbb how can they have so many happy customers. Next, how can a company have over 500 reviews when it is virtually impossible to move that many people in 2 years time. I decided on another moving company based out of Califoria who has been in business for over 10 years even though their price was nearly double their bbb rating is A+ which makes me far more comforatable with my decision. I think this company is putting fake reviews all over the place in hopes they can gain business from it and I feel that is fraudulant.

So upset
I cant believe how disappointed I am with this company. They gave me a great price quote for my move from california to Virginia and I have read so many wonderful reviews on this moving company only to find out that their license was revoked in November here is the link to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration where I found this out. Then I found out they only have one truck and are posting fake reviews all over the internet. Please be very weary of this company. I have also tried to post a review on the website where I found them www.moverreviews.com several times and the reviews were removed. I feel ripped off and unsure as to if I can trust this company.

Disappointment
ORI recently moved me from San Francisco to Salem, Mass. I was disappointed that although I gave an accurate description of what I was moving, the estimate was significantly under the final weight and went from just under $900 to over $1400 when the packing supply fee of about $300 was added (for 4 boxes and tape). Then, the person delivering my stuff postponed a day at the last minute and said he would be there at 6am. They actually showed up at 5:30am, which is unreasonably early.
As I had been told on the phone, I owed $160 for the final price. After I gave the gentleman the cash, he then proceeded to tell me that there would be an extra fee for the distance to the door and the apartment being on the third floor. Although they could easily see on a map that my new place is on a residential street, they drove up with an 18-wheeler, which they certainly knew would make it probably impossible to get near the house. When I explained that I had told the company twice that I was on the third floor, he went off saying it wasn't in the paperwork and that he would have to be paid extra. It was explained to him that I considered the $160 the final payment, which was already significantly above the estimated cost, and that it was the company's problem regarding the poor judgment in bringing an 18-wheeler for the small number of items I had (about a single room's worth) and that the company had been told at least two times that I was on the third floor and so I considered that fee included in the estimate. He then said that he would unload it, but wouldn't take any of it up to the apartment, leaving it to me and my partner to haul it up ourselves at 6am in the morning.
After they were done unloading, the head mover said I had to sign the invoice. When I refused to sign anything (which would signify satisfaction with the contract), he refused to give me a receipt for the $160 I gave him. I had been hauling items upstairs for about 40 minutes by the time they finished unloading, at which point he left with the wisecrack, You should get some rest, you look tired.

FAKE COMPANY REVIEWS
I believe that because Ori is only a year into business, they are filling out FAKE company reviews all over the internet, including this site. There is no way that everyday they have a post of 5 stars. Notice that all the reviews are posted within 2 weeks of each other and that everyone found all the reviews helpful. Highly suspect. They may make successful deliveries, but the chances that people are coming to this site everyday and giving them 5 stars, all about different qualities or Ori is unlikely. I think this company is owned by a man who incorporates, then waits for his company to go under then re-incorporates under a new name with a new track record. Already after just 2 months their Better Business Bureau rating has gone from Good to Satisfactory, and I believe they will continue a downward spiral then re-name the company for a fresh start in the next moving season. BAD QUOTE We initially were very happy with the quote that Ori Van Lines offered us. Unfortunately when the movers came to pick up our stuff there were a number of hidden costs. I remember specifically asking the sales representative if there would be any additional costs and he said no. I told him that I had pictures and mirrors, when the movers came they wanted me to pay for picture and glass boxes that cost $35 each. I told the sales rep I had 2 vacuum cleaners, the movers wanted me to pay $40 for each vacuum box. I told the sales rep what furniture I had and the movers wanted more money to wrap the furniture. They wrapped my things in blankets but used tape to hold the blankets on at $5 a roll. I went to a moving shop and offered to buy the tape so they didnʼt charge me for it and they refused. They went through about $100 of tape. BROKEN STUFF They broke through 4 high quality Rubbermaid moving boxes, also breaking the inside contents, they broke some of my furniture, they broke my $200 carpet cleaner. And in response, they have an insurance company that will give us a flat rate for a box or a vacuum etc. about $5 a box and the same for the vacuum, so basically you lose big time. STOLEN STUFF Shortly after the moving men left I noticed that an important red suitcase was not left with us. I called the moving man and he said in fact he did have the suitcase. He said he would find out if his supervisor would let him mail it to me or if he would send it after he finished all his drop offs. About a month later and 50 phone calls to the company trying to figure out where the mover was Ori told us there was no suitcase. They failed to track the guy, who is now MIA because he only works for them during the summer, they refused to tell me if he was still moving or if he had arrived and brought them the suitcase. It was 100 times easier for them to ignore me and my questions and hope that I dropped it, went through the insurance company and took the $27 instead of my suitcase which was worth about $100 and the contents worth several hundred more. If you value your possessions, do not hire Ori Van Lines!

Lying company and reviews
I am amazed that these people have nothing better to do with their time than posting tons of fake reviews everywhere. I was so amazed that I booked my move through them and guess what?? I was obviously the 1 out of 10,000 unlucky people that had numerous damages, missing items and rude customer service. Go figure. And the winderful reviews of where it only cost these lucky people $1,400.00 to move all the way cross country and the one person that it cost nearly the same to move within the state of California make ya kind of wonder huh? I was one of those idiots that believed they could move me cross country for $1,400.00 hundred dollars until they actually charged me nearly $4,000 and had to wait 3 weeks for my delivery and waas yelled at over the phone (when they actually answered it) in short, was it the worst most horrible nightmare I have ever dealt with? No but it was pretty damn close. I don't believe these people have 1 true posting on this website and if they do, I would love to speak with one of these happy fantastic people that would love to sit back and drink a beer with these people. What a crock of shit!!!!

ORI Van Lines Horrible Service
1-Pre-Move
My wife and I were preparing for a move that related to a new job in Georgia. This was a very small move, just some furniture and boxes from our 10X15 Storage unit in Spring Valley, Ca (just outside of San Diego. After considering all of the options, we were planning to use U-Haul, however decided to check on full service pricing as well since this was such a small move.
We were contacted by Joseph at ORI Van Lines (on Sunday 6/29, I believe) and offered us a price based on his estimate of 1500lbs for $990.00. This price is too good to be true, and not trusting him on his estimate I obtained pricing for 2000 and 2500lbs as well. The total cost was still very affordable. I took into investigating the company.
All web reviews were outstanding on service, pricing, etc. People really seem to love this company. No BBB complaints for 36 months, and the DOT info checked out as well.
After calling Joseph a couple of more times, I asked for the delivery date range. He had estimated between 7/8/08 7/12/08 for delivery. I explained that anything before the 10th would actually be too quick. He said that is not a problem at all. I now had a delivery estimate around 7/10 7/12. I ordered the move, and set up the pickup between 8am 10am on 7/3/08. I explained very carefully that this was my storage unit, and I would have to meet the driver there, and call with any delays or changes as soon as possible.
The following day, I received a call from Lindsey (at this point, she is in the billing department) to collect the initial deposit of $198.00 for the move. I gladly paid it, and confirmed the pickup date and time. She said that it was not listed in the system but would put it in for me. I also confirmed that they would arrive between 8am 10am on 7/3. She did put the information in. I asked about the delivery range, and she explained that at the max, they could deliver in 21 days. However if I have a different range, I could go with that. At least I had a worst case scenario (or so I thought).
So far everything is perfect. I LOVE this company. Everyone is super nice, and seems to understand the process.
2-Moving Day Arrives
7/3/08, my father and I head to the storage unit and arrive at 8am to await the movers. Around 9:45am I contact Joseph to find out the status on the movers. He gave me the number for dispatch and said they could provide me a status. I contact dispatch. The great thing here is I speak with Lindsey. On Monday, Lindsey was the billing department. Now she is apparently in dispatch. I figure it is a small company and people wear a lot of different hats.
Lindsey explains that the driver is on the way to our storage, and she just spoke with him. She was going to call him and have him call us right back.
Around 10:00am, I call Lindsey again, and she was surprised I had not heard from the driver. She stated she would call him and call me back.
Around 10:30am, I call again to Lindsey. This time she is still surprised that the driver (Ernie) did not call me. She explained that the driver was late because he was supposed to do a drop the day before in San Diego and had to do that first. He was going to be at least another 2 hours.
I was upset at this point (I will admit). The driver knew this information the night before and it should have been communicated at 8am the following morning. I asked Lindsey why this was not communicated, and she stated that she didn't think it was a big deal since I would have been hanging around my house waiting for the movers. Had she realized that this was a storage unit and we were not waiting at home, she would have probably called.
At this point, I took exception to the fact that this company would assume that it is ok to ignore an estimated time of arrival simply because the customer would probably be at home. I think she assumed that all customers have nothing better to do than sit around anticipating someone who is not coming. Not only is this idiotic, it is horrible customer service.
I went home, and waited for a call from the mover. After 3 hours, I called Lindsey back and she asked how far North Hollywood is from San Diego. In a semi, it should be about 3 5 hours (depending on traffic). This is now at 1pm. She was shocked; she thought he was closer to us than that.
I called Joseph to express my concern that I can not get a response from Dispatch, and Joseph would speak with his manager. He promised me that the truck would be there, etc. However I still was not convinced at this point.
After several hours of calling, I finally received a call from the Driver (Ernie) around 1:30pm, he is still about 100 miles away, and said he would be there shortly. I did explain that traffic could be bad and it was typically a two hour drive, to which he said, You don't know how I drive.
Eventually Ernie (the driver) showed up at the storage and we met him to have our items loaded. Ernie explained that part of the reason he was late was that his truck was shut down by the Department of Transportation for safety violations and he had to rent a Budget truck rental to finish his loads. Also, he had to pick up his cousin in Compton, Ca before he could come to San Diego, so he would have some help.
Ernie also said that he needed me to take him to a UPS store or something similar so that he could send his supervisors storage keys home. If I didn't take him, he would have to leave to do it. I had no choice, or actually I did, but it was not a good one. I took him to the UPS store, where he proceeded to talk about drug use, sleazy women. During this time he had my wife moving and labeling boxes with his cousin. We had no choice. As I explained to Ernie, and ORI Van Lines, if I am not out of my storage unit at 5pm, I will end up paying $25 per 15 minutes.
Eventually we got back, and they finished loading at 5:30 ($50.00 into excess storage fees). We filled out the paperwork, and he would not give me a copy of the Bill of Lading. Also, we were told that we would have the certificate of weight from pre-loading our stuff; however Ernie could not find a scale between LA and San Diego, Ca (I know of 3 myself, and I am not a trucker). He suggested that we call Budget and get the weight of the truck he rented, so that we can make sure that ORI doesn't scam us on the weight. This was a great confidence builder.
Also Ernie explained that he has not slept in 3 days, keeps a few different logs, so that he can make his deliveries. That did not make me feel really good when he drove off with my stuff. As a side note, I am a realistic person, several drivers do this stuff, and I just wish he would not have talked about it!
After he finally left, I called ORI Van Lines and spoke with Lindsey to explain the situation. She had me leave a message for her manager (Monty) and explained that nothing like this has ever happened before. I recapped everything for Monty and waited for a call back.
3-Post Move / Pre-Delivery
Monty called me the following week (I believe Monday, but not positive on the day). Monty apologized and said I was very rational, and handling the situation very well. He also stated that he was going to work on a discount for me, as well as get my items to me as soon as possible. He was going to call me the next day with more information.
Next day- No call from Monty all day. Called and left a few messages. Got return call around 5:30pm. Stated the driver had been fired and he was still working on a refund. Also, since truck had not been weighed yet, he was personally going to go with an empty truck to get weighed, and personally going back with our stuff loaded to get final weight on the truck, also he would fax me the certificates of weight. Would call the next day with status.
Next day- No call. I did not leave message ORI, since I wanted to give him the opportunity to call back.
Next day- Call ORI, leave message (am), call ORI leave message around noon. My wife calls ORI around 3:30pm and leave another message, stating our concern. Monty calls back in 5 minutes. Tells my wife that he passed it along to Golam (sp?) and he would call us back. Monty did not go with the truck to get weighed as promised, and was no longer personally accepting responsibility to ensure our move is successful. At this point, my wife misunderstood something Monte said, and yes became irate. Told him that they are providing horrible customer service. At this point Monty said he would no longer speak with her. He would only speak with me regarding the move. Patty handed me the phone and asked me to speak with the fu*$er.
At this point, Monty would no longer speak with me, called Golam and got the weight of the truck, gave the phone to Lindsey, and she gave me the total of the move. I spoke with Lindsey, and explained I was sorry if he was upset, however if he did not fail on his promises, this would not happen. I also explained that if he can not deal with upset customers, he is probably in the wrong industry and needs to learn to ââ¬Åsuck it upââ¬Â a little more. Lindsey said some people can take it better than others.
I was told that my possessions would be leaving on the weekend.
Later in week, told truck is leaving no later than Saturday.
Monday, we called ORI. Truck left Saturday. They have up to 21 days to deliver or they will discount by $30 per day (stated by Lindsey).
Called (I believe) Wednesday for status update (Thursday was 21 days, 7/24/2008). Was told that Lindsey found out she was wrong about the 21 days, and ORI's attorney said that it was actually 30 days. It was amazing that she was wrong only when they would not make the deadline. Lindsey did state the driver should be here no later than Friday (7/25). Was also told certificates of weight would be with driver.
Thursday (7/24) driver called and stated would be in town Sunday (7/27 around noon).
Sunday, driver called said was late and would be in around 5:30pm. He arrived closer to 4:40pm. Unloaded the truck, had NO certificates of weight. Also could not give me a copy of Bill of Lading since he had the only copy. I could have copied it, however, we did not have access to make a copy either. While unpacking, the following damage occurred:
1-Collection of 1940's 1950's corningware, shattered (box appears to have been dropped).
2-Collection of china, bought in Japan during WW2, destroyed (box appears to have been destroyed).
3-90% of my picture frames, destroyed
4-Handmade quilt rack, destroyed.
Called ORI on Monday 7/28, my wife spoke with Lindsey, explained the situation. Lindsey was in a warehouse and would call us back in 15 minutes. We have not received a call back from anyone.
I called and left a message about 3pm local time for ORI. I sent an email with my requests.
We did receive a call from the delivery driver on 7/30. He was very concerned about the damage and offered to help any way he could. The problem is that he could not actually do anything since he can not give me money to compensate for damages, he can not make ORI do anything, etc.
I have yet to hear from ORI Van Lines. It is now 7/31. Longest 15 minutes of my life.
Moral of the story: Despite the good reviews, despite the number of successful moves this company may have had, they are just as much of a scam as other movers out there. Since I have not received a call, I am done attempting to contact them, I don't have the energy to continue to be ignored, all I can do is keep sharing my story. I would never use this company. This has been a nightmare. I can't change what happened, all I can do is move on and try to fix the mess that has been made and hopefully no one else makes the same mistake. Hopefully those who use them have a better result.

When we first discovered we were moving from Danville, CA to Virginia we called Ori. Joseph asked only 1 or 2 questions and said that he was confident that despite the fact that I had just told him that we had packed out a 24 ft truck only 8 months before and that we had VERY Large furniture and LOTS of books, that he estimated our weight at 2500 pounds - so a move across country for a 2000 sq ft home would only be $1400. Since U-Haul estimated 10,000 pounds for a 26 ft truck, I knew he was WAY off base and totally discounted Ori.
We got a quote from a company that went through our entire house who estimated 6 wardrobes and 70 boxes in addition to our furniture. All the quotes were coming in about $7000-$9000. We chose to rent a truck ourselves and drive it cross country, paying for e-moves to load and unload on each side. Having done that type of move several times, we knew that would run about $3500 or less.
A few days before the move Joseph called and insisted that I talk to him. I would have hung up, but he said he could PROVE that he could do it for less than $3500. I gave him 5 minutes to prove it. He is good - he convincced me that he had made an error, but that comonly companies overestimate the weight. He told me absolutely that he could do the move for $2400. I asked how he could do that when I couldn't even do it for that price doing the labor myself. Joseph insisted that in all his moves he does a great job of estimating. I told him again that we TOTALLY packed out a 24 ft truck 8 months prior. But that we had just been quoted 70 boxes plus our furniture. He knew we had a 2000 sq ft home. He knew we had lots of books. He asked questions about the furniture but nothing else.
He quoted 4300 pounds at .54 cents/pound. $2400. I looked on the site and saw a review that said that they had been over quoted on weight by another company. I called and asked to speak to the manager. They transferred me to Lindsey.
I asked Lindsey how often they hit their estimates acurately. Lindsey stated emphatically that they were right on 90% of the time on the weight of their initial phone estimates. She later changed her story.
The movers showed up on time and told us that it looked like we were pretty well prepared and shouldn't need much in boxes. He also told us that the bid was 40% low. My husband was upset. But at that point, I figured oh well. He asked my husband to sign some things and said that the in-between info gets filled out after the move is done and allows them to help us get the best price. My husband gave him a look, the mover said Come on, I'm not trying to rip you off!
By the time they finished, the mover said we actually had about 12,000 pounds and later found out that with all the boxes they had to use, there was an additional $1800 for 3 crates of boxes. They wanted $8500! More than 3 times what they quoted! Since I had packed 85% of the house I was shocked. But what choice do you have at that point?
We called Lindsey who at this point asked what our weight quote was at the time the movers showed up...because the previous quote over the phone was just a very rough estimate. She again stated that the quote on site needed to be within 10% of what they could charge. That was one of the forms they had us sign at the end of the day after they had packed us up.
Lindsey didn't call us back. We called numerous times and occasionally reached her. Finally the owner called us. He said the movers already discounted $500 on moving day. But he would give us 15% off the remaining 50% due.
The owner had the nerve to say that we had tricked him by telling him we had a small load that switching to a very large load. The owner said they had to use 3 crates of their own boxes, which they were billing us $1800 for. Since I had 85% packed (or more) and had only spent about $500 on boxes, I counted. They charged us $1800 for 25 large boxes! Now they did pack those boxes too. But having moved 15 times in 20 years, I can tell you that is outrageous!
I do have to say that the movers arrived on time, worked hard and did a pretty good job loading and unloading with so far minimal breakage.

A WEB OF LIES, DECIET, & THEFT
Every 5-star review on this company is a lie. Click on any one of them and you will see that it is the only review the person has made. Ori Van Lines has waged a campaign to write fake reviews all over the internet and on Yelp specifically to give themselves a 5-star rating. I'm actually appalled that Yelp lets this happen. I have my own horrible experience with Ori Van Lines to share. My fiance and I moved from Berkeley to Boston about 3 months ago. We foolishly believed the reviews here on Yelp as well as others we'd found on the web and originally the people from Ori we spoke to over the phone seemed helpful. Little did we know we were being lied to the entire time.
On the day of our move, the persons who came to pick up our stuff knew nothing about the prices/estimates we had been quoted over the phone, nor the estimated weight of our shipment from our sales rep. Instead they attempted to bully us into paying whatever they wanted and then inflated what they thought our actual weight was -- more than twice what we were quoted based on the number of boxes we had packed. Since the truck was loaded and the movers were in a hurry, we had to move quickly and pay what they wanted otherwise they would offload and be on their way. The driver gave us two options. He estimated the weight (twice what our rep had estimated based on the number of boxes/items we had), and said we could either pay for a guaranteed price at slightly lesser weight than what he estimated or that we could take our chances and end up paying a big penalty if we were over our estimated weight. He kept stressing the huge penalty and that his estimate was more correct since he was there. And he was in a hurry. We had to decide and decide quickly. We paid for the guaranteed price. Suckers.
When we spoke to the sales rep on the phone about this, he told us, so. When we specifically mentioned the price he had quoted us to pack a TV and that the movers bullied us into more than 4 times that amount, he said he would see what he could do. Turns out the final weight of our shipment was just slightly less than what the sales rep had quoted us. He was pretty much right on. And the movers who took our stuff had just fleeced us for almost double the money. Plus tip. Yeah, a freaking tip, too.
On delivery (weeks late), we did not receive all of our items. Why would we? That would be the mark of a good company. They lost 4 our of biggest boxes which were clearly marked with our names and delivery location. Expensive computer equipment, clothing, kitchenware, etc.
We were originally told to file a claim. And that we would need the original copy of the delivery inventory form to do so. They never gave us the inventory form, and the delivery persons knew nothing of any paperwork. For the past few months, we have been trying to work with Ori to locate our boxes, and to get the correct form we needed to file the claim. Every time we've called we were told, the warehouse is full, we can't look for your stuff, and we'll send the form out to you. In trying to reach the manager, he was never was around and always, in the warehouse. He never returned calls and it took herculean effort on both of our parts to get any information. And we have yet to receive the form needed for us to actually file a claim.
Eventually we were told, someone had found 2 of our boxes. Then that person immediately went on vacation. Unfortunately, they were the only person who had seen them and knew where they were. When that person was supposed to come back, we were told they decided to stay on vacation another week. Yet they were somehow unable to tell anybody where our stuff was. Right. Eventually, when talking to multiple departments at Ori, we found out the person who knew the (secret) location of our stuff had resigned from the company. Even better, he had supposedly told the company that the boxes he had found were not ours in the first place. What the hell?
At the same time, we have both filed complaints with the BBB (Better Business Bureau of San Jose). Eventually, Ori Van Lines responded to both our complaints with file a claim. Great, we've been trying to get the damn form in order to file a claim this entire time. I am very disappointed in the BBB.

They stole and broke our property
BAD QUOTE
We initially were very happy with the quote that Ori Van Lines offered us. Unfortunately when the movers came to pick up our stuff there were a number of hidden costs. I remember specifically asking the sales representative if there would be any additional costs and he said no. I told him that I had pictures and mirrors, when the movers came they wanted me to buy pay for picture and glass boxes that cost $35 each. I went to a moving shop and offered to buy the tape so they didnt charge me for it and they refused. They went through about $100 of tape.
BROKEN STUFF
They broke through 4 high quality Rubbermaid moving boxes, also breaking the inside contents, they broke some of my furniture, they broke my $200 carpet cleaner. And in response, they have an insurance company that will give us a flat rate for a box or a vacuum etc. about $5 a box and the same for the vacuum, so basically you lose big time.
STOLEN STUFF
Shortly after the moving men left I noticed that an important red suitcase was not left with us. I called the moving man and he said in fact he did have the suitcase. He said he would find out if his supervisor would let him mail it to me or if he would send it after he finished all his drop offs. About a month later and 50 phone calls to the company trying to figure out where the mover was Ori told us there was no suitcase. It was 100 times easier for them to ignore me and my questions and hope that I dropped it, went through the insurance company and took the $5 instead of my suitcase which was worth about $100 and the contents worth another couple hundred.
FAKE COMPANY REVIEWS
I believe that because Ori is only a year into business, they are filling out FAKE company reviews all over the internet, including this site. There is no way that everyday they have a post of 5 stars. They may make successful deliveries, but the chances that people are coming to this site everyday and giving them 5 stars, all about different qualities or Ori is unlikely. I think this company is owned by a man who incorporates, then waits for him company to go under then re-incorporates under a new name with a new track record. Already after just 2 months their Better Business Bureau rating has gone from Good to Satisfactory, and I believe they will continue a downward spiral then re-name the company for a fresh start in the next moving season.
