Do Not Use This Moving Co
From start to finish I felt like I was held over a barrel with this moving company!! My move started with a $15 charge to cover the tolls movers paid to come from NJ to NYC!! I had to sign a wavier that I would pay any parking tickets recieved by the moving company! I was charged for 1hr of travel, I moved 13 block in NYC. I paid the amount in cash before they would take my belonging out of the truck a half hour into the move I was told that I would have to pay for an additional hour as well as for packing tape even though we had previously agreed to an amount as well was a healthy tip for the movers!!

Be warned!
This company has the nerve to call themselves Flat Rate when they are anything but. They subcontracted my local move (four blocks away) to another company, which is apparently how they operate. They tell you that it will cost $X per hour and state that they may have to use moving supplies to assist in your move. Then, once you sign the contract on the day of your move, they proceed to pack and re-pack everything and charge you for it. Need to cover your furniture in blankets, you get charged for that. The tape to hold the blankets, a charge for that. Clothing on hangers, better have them in a wardrobe box or else. They won't move what they consider improperly packed, and that appeared to be everything I packed myself. Not only did they charge for all these extra items, but all that extra packing takes time and adds even more to your total. It took seven hours to move four blocks away from my old one bedroom apartment. Don't want to pay their fees for added materials, fine, they won't move that item. They have you over a barrel, which, if they actually had one, they would charge you for using it. Avoid at all costs.

Awful experience
If you really care for your furniture, don't use FlatRate! We recently moved from NYC to San Diego and had to deal with extensive damage, negligence which resulted in loss of two moving boxes (here goes your favorite cloth!), and misleading information which caused the insurance company not to pay for part of the damage. FlatRate refused to offer a partial refund for all the trouble and loss (and there was plenty) and was not willing to accept responsibility. Although we liked the all-in-one price, we didn't like the dirty, disgusting, fluid stained blankets in which they wrapped parts of our furniture. Overall, it was a most disappointing experience that resulted in substantial monetary loss despite extra insurance. Moving company's address: 27 Bruckner Blvd, Bronx, NY 10454, Tel.877-695-2595

Late Delivery, missing parts, police involvement
We contracted with FlatRate movers to move our stuff from California to Texas. The pick-up was per the schedule. However all the problems started in the Delivery.
The delivery was 3 days late. Also the delivery was done by the third party truck operator, who was a jerk. Initially he asked for more money for the delivery under the pretense that there was a more walking distance then the distance mentioned in the contract. We tried to sort that out with him, but he kept increasing the price. Ultimately he told us that he would dump all the stuff on the main road and leave. We were so mad we told him that we need to contact Flatrate to sort this out. While we were calling Flatrate, he called the police on us. Fortunately, police understood our problem and asked him to sort the problem out with us. Imagine moving into a new neighborhood and the first impression that you give out having police at your doorsteps.
While taking the delivery, we noticed that the hardware for the queen bed was missing and so the movers did not assemble the bed (which was requirement per the contract).
Later we called the company to file the claim for late delivery and missing hardware. After considerable delay, and repeated calls from us, the company offered us $60 for the bed (originally worth much much more). We were left with a completely useless bed, no assembly done (which was required per contract) and then company offering $180 ($60 + $120 Late Charge). And to top it all, we had police at our doorsteps.
So goodluck with this company.

Very Dissatisfied at Delivery
My experience with this company was horrible. The pick-up and loading process in Los Angeles went okay (although they were overpriced and the & flat rate concept makes no sense whatsoever) but the delivery process was fraught with problems. My belongings were supposed to be delivered in 7-14 business days upon my arrival at my destination. Of course, it took 14 days, which is not a problem, as I was expecting that, but there was a serious problem with communication on the company's part. After waiting almost two weeks for my belongings to arrive, a company representative from the dispatch department contacted me and let me know that my stuff would be delivered in 3-5 days. & Terrific &, I thought, as that would mean a timely delivery, and the dispatcher informed me that I would be given 24-48 hours notice before the moving truck was set to arrive. Four days went by and no one called me. I called the company several times trying to find out where my stuff was and no one bothered to return my call. I even called my representative on his cell phone to no avail. NO communication from the company. On the fifth day at about 11:00 a.m. I received a call from the driver informing me that my belongings would be delivered THAT DAY after 5:00. So much for a little notice. He gave me the sorry excuse that the dispatcher had been sick and thus couldn't call me to let me know the time frame. So 5:00 comes and goes, and the driver calls back and says he won't be arriving until late because of traffic. I say "okay. drive safely.& Then comes another call from the driver informing me that it will be late when they arrive so they might unload my things tomorrow. I tell him that that is not okay, because I have specifically reserved parking spaces through the municipality and they expired that night. My instructions are ignored. He informs me that he will deliver my belongings the following day at 8:00 a.m. They arrived at 9:00 am, which was of course no big deal to me. THEN came the fun stuff. I had signed a contract indicating that there would only be one flight of stairs at the destination address, and I told my sales rep that it might be one more flight but I wasn't sure, and he told me & Don't worry about it" and went on about how my quoted price was firm and that was what the & flat rate& concept was all about. He said that I would only be charged extra if there was some situation that arose whereby the movers would have to load my belongings onto a smaller truck in order to get close enough to my apartment. So Of course I didn't worry about it. So the driver walks into my apartment and says he's charging me for an extra flight because I'm on the second floor. He's verbally confrontational and completely disrespectful when I suggest that maybe if I call the office they will drop the fee because I have been inconvenienced. He raises his voice to me and goes on about something that I can't understand because he doesn't speak very good English. He says he will not unload anything from the truck unless I give him $100. Fine. I give him the money. Fast forward FOUR hours. It takes two men FOUR hours to unload a ONE bedroom apartment...The driver/mover is finished and ready to leave, after complaining about how hard his job is. As if I CARE how hard his job is. I go to sign the inventory and agreement and surprise! The $100 extra I gave him is recorded nowhere on the paper. Call me crazy, but after the interaction I have had with these people, I think it was more than an oversight. I ensured that he recorded my $100 payment and sent him on his way.
Now none of this sounds particularly awful, and I've put it behind me, but the bottom line is that these people were completely unprofessional and didn't listen to a single word I said throughout the moving process. I am so incensed, as I find it insulting and rude, not to mention disrespectful to treat a customer in this manner. I will certainly never use them again. I have few regrets in life, but this is one of them.
