THE WORST SERVICE COMPANY EVER
They were so nice and easy to work with until they got our deposit money $708, after that it was an experience from hell. We had a firm pick up date - they missed it and never even called to tell us what was going on.
When we finally did reach them it was another customer said they had 3000 pds to pick up and really had 15,000. We've been packing all night and haven't had any sleep blah . .blah . .blah. I try to be understanding so I volunteered to let them get some sleep (skip a day) and show up the day after as long as they were there by noon. At the scheduled day and time they just didn't show up . . again.
When I finally reached the owner of the company they had brokered our move to it was the drivers fault, he was dishonest and was working on other deals instead of doing the one we scheduled so we fired him. I GUARANTEE someone will be there on Monday (3days later), he's coming in from North Carolina and has a drop in Portland. My name is everyting . . .trust me . . .blah . .blah . .blah.
Long story short, after 8 days of waiting I finally called and cancelled. It cost me about $2000 for hotels, not to mention lost work. I've asked to have my deposit returned, but I have a feeling that is going to be a long battle of excuses with the accountant being sick etc. i can already feel it coming - they are so dishonest. Emily Edwards the last contact I spoke with was very nice and really seemed to care, but this is bigger than her - Nationwide Moving Services couldn't care less.
On a side note I did find a local Portland Company called Thunder Movers. Dottie the owner picked up and was shocked at the experience I had been through. She had movers there the same day, they showed up right when they promised, friendly as all get out. It is going to cost me a little more, but I would recommend them to anyone - they are worth what they charge and more!

Horrible
Nationwide is a broker. They do not have their own trucks. Here are the specifics of the poor rating.
1. Late - they were a day late in picking up the items and a week late in delivering them. We had to follow up with Nationwide and the actual carrier (Castle Harbor Marina Moving and Storage, Philly area).
2. Damaged items - Many expensive items were damaged totaling about $7000 worth of damage. You have to claim the damage when they deliver, and some damage was not noticed until after the fact.. We bought extra insurance, and there was a gotcha with the insurance (Travel Guard Inc.). They wanted you to fill out the form within a day and send it back. We had so much going on we didn't read the fine print about grouping items together. They basically take the grouped items and divide the payment amongst the grouped items. This was our fault, but a day to return the form is not enough time. Insurance did not cover the full damage.
3. Return calls - They were horrible with this. We had to keep calling them.
4. Transfer between trucks - The first truck unloaded into a warehouse only to be loaded on the same exact truck for shipment. This caused some water damage on furniture
5. Broker - They have no liability for the move. We received quotes from other companies that were a little higher. I would have been better to pay a little more for a company that does their own work. The whole moving industry is a scam, and brokers are the worst to deal with. Find a local moving company that does Interstate moves rather than useless brokers.

Fraudulent Company
We hired Nationwide moving services for a move from Vermont to Rhode Island. We had some belonging in storage and were not sure of the actual inventory at first. After filling out a estimated list of items (i.e. weight), we were assured that we would only be charged for the actual weight with the weight station certificate, minus the deposit we gave. The first clue should have been when the movers contacting us 3 days earlier than scheduled to move out our things. I called Nationwide at that time and they rescheduled for the original date. On the day of the move, the movers who had come from Brooklyn, NY (Super Van Man movers) showed up with a very small truck and then started asking who was going to pay them. That was the start of it, I spoke with them at least 3 times during this process, they kept asking me about the money and I was insisting that they call me when they had the actual weight of the truck, because we had overestimated the amount of items. When they arrived to our new house in RI a day late, they wanted cash and wanted to charge us extra by at least $200. They were the biggest scum bags and smelled disgusting. They threated to take off with our belongings unless we had the money. My husband ended up parking his car in front of the truck and called the police. When the police arrived they took our side and we payed what was agreed upon. After that they decided that they were not going to bring our things inside our house but leave everything in the garage. We were infuriated!! Our two car garage was packed. We asked them how we should move a piece of furniture and they replied put in the backyard and douse it with gasoline and light it on fire My husband actually helped them unload the truck, while they complained about how they might not break even (monetarily) on this move.I have never before been witness to such unprofesional behavior and disgusting people. Of course, we weren't able to contact anyone at Nationwide because it was Sunday. After the movers left I recieved a very insulting and threatening text message (including death threats) followed by many more the next day. My husband went to the local police station and had to report the movers and the police contacted them to warn them if the texting didn't stop we would press charges. We contacted Nationwide and they were so sorry that this happened to us. They told us they would give us $150 back to hire local movers to finish the job. That was 2 weeks ago. We have called everyday and spoke with Brandi then Christy the last time, we are getting the complete run around. This company is an absolute FRAUD and RIP OFF!! We intend to get our money. I call for a class action lawsuit! Please stay away from this company they are CROOKS! We paid for a full service move, but got a pathetic moving company who left our things in our gargage. This is what Nationwide provides.

avoid this moving contractor
Just would like to post my experience with this company. I had a very simple move that involved moving a few personal items from a storage locker located in Palo Alto, California to Chicago. One of these items included a pair of expensive stereo loud speakers valued around ~ 3000. I had chosen this company based on the excellent reviews posted on this website. My grievances are listed as follows:
PICKUP
-on the pickup date the scheduled pickup time was 12:00pm. The two movers were approximately 3 hours late and basically over half of my entire work day was wasted.
-one of the movers dropped my tool set on the side walk which broke open and sent hundreds of little sockets and other items all over the place...
DELIVERY
-I was surprised by a sudden call that the movers were suddenly in Chicago and had to do the delivery at 10:00pm in the evening! This was both disturbing to me and the neighbors.
-My belongings were delivered in a different vehicle than the pickup vehicle. They were stuffed in the front of the vehicle and the movers had to remove other people's belongings out of the way to get at them. The movers seems quite confused as to which belongings were mind and I had to go to the truck to identify them on several occasions.
-The one item that I cared about the most, and which I gave specific instructions to handle with care, my speakers, were damaged. Several cups were also damaged and a picture was missing.
-After filing the claim report with Anthem Claim Management, which is a third party contracted by Nationwide, my total reimbursement came to $64! Basically I was screwed in the fine print which states that the max. I can claim is $0.60 per pound. Since I was shipping low weight but high value items I got only $64 when the damage was in the thousands.
The sole reason why I picked this company in the first place was based on its excellent reviews on this website. However, upon looking more closely at the reviews on this website many of them seem to lack details and generally appear falsely fabricated. I really question the originality of any posts here... For me the cost of the move was not an issue, the quality was my primary concern, and I must say that in this aspect Nationwide Moving Services really let me down.

Terrible
Hi all,
I have faced lots of problem just because of Nationwide.Let me elaborate one by one
1)They never told you that they are brokers.
2)All are liers..We'll transfer your goods in same truck to your place.
3)At the time of delivery they gave the excuse like the truck failed so they god all my furniture in a big trailer in which almost 12 family furniture is there.
4)They lost my few crockery set and broke some. They broke my dining chair in front of me.They lost one dining chair. They broke all the handles to my bed room set. They broke the mirror and whats not...
5)Very rude...all are hell.Don't believe on LORI,BRANDY,SHERRY
6)They never take any responsibility after pickup.
7)All the time you need to call the driver.
8)Its a pathetic service.
9)They just promise that they do assembling and dismentaling as well. But the worst part is when they came for delivery their drivesr were not having screw drivers for assembling and didn't assemble my single thing.left everything like that.
I KNOW HOW DIFFICULT TO GET THE VERY GOOD MOVER AS THE MOVERS LIKE nationwide IS THE REAL PAIN.

Extorsion
The movers were courteous, honest, and hard workers. However, I would not use Nationwide Moving Services ever again because of their fraudulent practice of bait and switch. I was provided a not-to-exceed estimate, which I signed electronically. On the day of delivery, I called Nationwide Moving Services to confirm the shipment of our goods. The person I contacted told me they would contact me right away with the final bill. Of course, there should have been no change in the final bill because of the not to exceed contract I signed. The person came back later with a total of nearly $1000 dollars higher than the contracted amount. I asked to speak with the sales person and they said I could not do that, but that they would write her up, as if a letter of reprimand to the sales person would pay the extorsion fee!! The moving crew called, wondering why I was declining to pay the extra fee. I explained the situation and we agreed on a lesser amount of only $375.00. I have filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and would never recommend Nationwide Moving Services to anyone. According to the moving crew this type of unethical sales tactic is quite common within the company because the sales people push for a lower price in order to get the sale. They are not held accountable - only the custome is!!

Bad experience with Nationwide move
Move from Atlanta to San Jose, CA. Nationwide set us up with Zen Van Lines. Original quote was raised ~65% after pick of the goods. I originally contracted through Nationwide rep (Branda and Brandi ) and contract was for packing, moving and unpacking as well. We paid extra for packing and unpacking for 15 box based on the cotract. At the time of delivery, they didn't bother to unpack , even I call Nationwide at the time of delivery. Packers showed up at 1 hour late although while packing they did a fair job. Delivery was late for more than 5-6 days as committed to me by Nationwide representative. At the time of delivery, driver came alone in a big truck(18 wheels). Before unloading he made me to pay extra $200 for moving my belongings to the apartment, even my apartment was on 1st floor(walk-in level no staircase) next to the road where he parked his trucks.
I shown the driver my contract and payment regarding the unpacking of the boxes, but he didn't bothered much, also I called to Nationwide regarding this same time, they said they will talk to driver, but they didn't called even to the driver I believe at the time of delivery. At the time of delivery and after delivery as well I called lot of times to Nationwide for claiming the money which I paid for unpacking of the box.... they are giving some excuses and saying our job is over and contact Zen van Lines. They kind of refused to communicate further and listen. Broken items include one of our bed dresor stand. I will be filing claims for items. I would NEVER EVER use these people (or Nationwide) again for any move. If you are considering them, pls think twice.

Excellent drivers/movers but customer service left a lot to
Initial customer service (CS) was excellent; quick estimates, and made assurances that put many concerns to rest. However, there was no communication before actual pickup. When I called CS a day before the first date in the pickup range, I was told to be available immediately, otherwise the next pickup would be a week later. When I told the CS rep it wasn't doable, she was nonchalant and insisted there was nothing she could do. I finally obtained the driver's phone number and arranged for pickup within the pickup range. My experience with the drivers/movers/packers were a lot more positive. They were friendly, careful and restored my confidence in the company. They meticulously packed and inventoried my belongings. The transit time was supposed to be a week, but it ended up taking two weeks. Not a huge issue, since unforseeable delays do happen. However, I wished CS would have been better at communicating the delays.
Cost ended up a lot higher than the estimate. I requested a 4000 lbs estimate. After providing my storage unit's dimensions, the CS rep suggested I go for the 2000 lbs estimate. My belongings ended up weighing 3000 lbs, but the final cost was higher than the 4000 lbs estimate I was initially given. The other issue I experienced was, when I specifically asked if there would be an extra charge for a move to the 3rd floor of an apartment with no elevator, the CS rep said that there would only be an extra charge for the 4th floor onwards. That was not the case though.Overall, I'd still say it was decent move. I was extremely glad that only a few items arrived broken. The drivers/movers were all extremely helpful and courteous. Be sure to use sturdy boxes, since some of the movers don't seem to heed Fragile labels. I would have rated this company better if the CS reps had been better at communicating delays and cost changes.

Nationwide & USA Relocation damaged tons
I called and got quotes in Dec for a move frm FL to NC.Nationwide was very cheap and I felt comfortable with the agent so I went with them. They also said my cost would'nt exceed the quote..BIG LIE!!
They first took a $830 dep before the move which was scheduled for MON, Jan 5th..They gave me a window from 8am-12pm. They finally got there at 3:30p.m. They said it would be about 5-6 hrs to load..It was over 8hrs.. I then was told we were over 2000lbs over our quote and would owe over $2000 more at the end of the move!!
I was told I would have my things in NC the next day after 3p.m...Didnt get it til WED the 7th at 10a.m. Then they showed up a guy short so they took til well after dark to unload. I talked to a Bobby from USA and told him I was very unhappy and felt they should be reported to the BBB. He then hung up and won't answer my calls.
If thats not enough they damaged ea piece of our Master Bedroom Furniture..Not sm damages either! Our armoire for example has 2 corners taken off, gashes in our dresser, headbord etc. They didnt wrap our sectional couch and its filthy along with a white chenile rocker. I have filed a claim for damages which is a 90 day process, but I am already getting the run around from Brandi @ Nationwide. DON'T USE THESE BACK WOODS COMPANIES!!!!

Lazy, slow, extremely unprofessional
Dont be decieved by the seemingly nice women (Lori, Sherri, Abby) that work in the office.... We moved from a two bedroom apartment that was almost completely packed to a house in Dallas that was furnished.
After we decided to use Nationwide, our movers were supposed to contact us a week before the move. That never happened. It was Saturday afternoon and our move was scheduled for Tuesday. We contacted nationwide who then called our third party movers for us. They eventually called us back and said they would be loading our things Sunday at noon THREE days earlier than planned (one day before the contract allowed). Loading day came, we still didnt hear anything, finally at 3pm we called to see where they were. Upon arrival, the first man (Sonny) comes in carrying 5 boxes and a STEAK KNIFE.
We were planning on having them pack our kitchen and our framed pictures. The mover (John) packed the kitchen. He took our silverware tray (not realizing it comes apart...) and literally TOSSED it into a box 2 feet away spilling half the tray onto the floor. Sonny, was packing our pictures and flipped threw a photo album he was supposed to be packing. How unprofessional! It kept getting worse. Sonny was extremely slow, he packed about three boxes and left the rest of the pictures out. Which WE had to PACK OURSELVES at MIDNIGHT so they wouldnt be left behind. Why did we pay for packing services?
At 10PM and they were still taking loads down (to what we thought was the truck). Rather, they were placing all of our beloved items in the common entry way to the 100 unit complex we lived in. Then, they come upstairs to tell us WE NEED to take them to the gas station because their TRUCK WON'T START, the lift wouldnt work, and of course, they needed SNACKS. Upon leaving for the gas station, they left the bed to the truck completely open with 1/4 of our things inside, they left the entry doors to the apartment building propped open with 1/2 of our things inside COMPLETELY UNATTENDED for over 30 minutes. The movers finally finished at 1:30AM. (10 HOURS for a TWO BEDROOM apartment!) The truck remained parked illegally until 4PM the next day because they still couldn't get it started.
Upon calling to complain, customer service was extremely apologetic and said we were going to get a BIG DISCOUNT. Our big discount turned out to be just $100! That is ridiculous considering our move was $3500. We called customer service again and this time they were defensive, rude, and unsympathetic.
We would NOT recommend this company to anyone!

Absolute Liars
I can not believe this website has them listed as the top 3. WHat a JOKE! People should check out other sites such as Im pissed and rip offs, Because this company has a whole list of complaints and I am adding to it. They are a bunch of lying decieving and very un professional people I have ever meet. I accomadated them and had them pick up my furniture 3 days early. Well they pulled up in a piece of crap truck that broke down. ANd the front top part of the truck was all torn apart and we were told by the driver Cornell, because the police had stopped them, thinking they were transporting drugs!! Not a good start, so this our first major move from Illinois to texas, we were excited to get a new start with our 2 young kids and this company made us miserable for over 3 weeks with lie after lie. The truck broke down on the way..Sure..... and we did not recieve our things until 2weeks later. We had to sleep on the floor, pay extra money on top of the extra they had charged us even though it was suppose to be a BINDING quote. I had to pay hotel for my parents for a week, because they could not sleep on the floor. So for a move that was suppose to only cost$3500.....we payed over $6000, with everything. And I still have to file a claim which I called for the packet over 2 weeks ago and I still have not received...Im sure thats gonna be hell also. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY, YOUARE BETTER OFF USING A BIGGER COMPANY OR DOING IT YOURSELF SAVE YOURSELF THE HEADACHES, THE MONEY, THE UN PROFESSIONALISM OF THIS COMPANY

NationwideMovingServices.com Complaint
I contracted with Nationwide Movers.com to provide moving services from Dallas, TX to Midlothian, VA. Upon requesting a bid for services, I made clear my moving date and delivery date. I was assured if I chose Nationwidemovers.com I would receive reliable service as many moving companies hire brokers to move furniture but Nationwide has their own employees and therefore more control of the accuracy of delivery.
The importance of delivery date was discussed on many occasions prior to my move date including the final discussion with Lori (original customer service representative who recommended we move our original pick-up day from 10/18 to 10/16 to guarantee arrival by the desired 10/21 date. While very inconvenient (as I was still working in Dallas and needed basic essentials through the end of the week such as bed, coffee maker, clothing, etc.) I agreed in order to ensure delivery in Virginia by 10/21.
I arranged to leave my job early on Thursday, October 16th to meet the mover who called earlier in the day to say he would be at my apartment by 3:00 p.m. 3:00 came and went without a phone call. I called the mover and he said they had a big load and were running behind schedule. I arranged to meet him at 7:00 p.m. He called at 6:55 and asked if he could come the following day at 7:00 a.m. as his crew was very tired. He finally arrived at 8:10 a.m. the time I needed to leave for work.
He rushed me through additional paperwork (which I was not expecting). I thought I signed all the appropriate paperwork when I contracted with Nationwide. He said I had to sign it or he couldnt move my furnishings. Under duress, as I was going to be late for my last day at work, I hurried through the paperwork. The mover said he would complete the inventory by 9:45 a. m. and I could come back to my apartment at that time to pick it up. I left work, unscheduled, to meet him at the apartment. Upon arrival, he was still not done with the inventory.
I explained I was concerned about the way things were going and I could not keep leaving the office on my last day. He said not to worry about it and he would leave the inventory in my apartment. I reiterated the need to have my furnishings in Virginia on the 21st and the movers agreed he would deliver.
To make an excruciatingly long story short, my belongings were not delivered until November 3, 2008 causing me tremendous inconvenience. Every two days or so between 10/21 and 11/3, Nationwidemovingservices and the mover would assure me delivery by a new date. The day would come and go and no one would call me to give me a status update on where my personal belongings were.
At no time did they elude to possible delays or the potential for delivery other than 10/21. Once the agreed upon dates came and went, they referred to a clause in the contract stating they had 30 days to deliver. What they verbally promised and what the contract stated were two totally different agreements. To make matters worse, they would promise delivery dates and not even have the courtesy to call to inform me they weren’t delivering. For 13 days I had to beg, plead, and persuade to get my furniture delivered. I was lied to, ignored, and given the run around.
On 11/5/08 I contacted the customer service manager I had been speaking to during the move debacle because I need a receipt. Additionally, I requested a copy of my inventory (I was promised this several times during the 13 days between my pick-up and delivery date). I havent received either. I need the inventory to file with the insurance company for the damages I experienced during the move. I believe they are purposefully withholding my inventory form because the movers insurance company will not process a claim for damages without one. At this point, I cannot file a claim and Nationwidemovingservices is withholding my receipt for services and my inventory for items moved.
I have never encountered a more unprofessional company. I havent even mentioned how they overcharged me from my contracted amount for additional services they won’t substantiate with a receipt. I believe they are withholding the above mentioned items because they are engaging in unethical business practices, namely overcharging customers for services not received and pressuring customers during a highly stressful time to agree to their terms after an original contract was signed, and withholding an inventory form to prevent me from filing a claim for damages caused by the movers.

Nationwide Moving Services You get what you pay for
My wife, who is pregnant and doesn't need the stress, received an abundance of quotes from many movers over a period of a week or so. After reviewing them, she decided to go with Nationwide because the price was reasonable, the salesperson was very attentive, and, they offered an in-home quote that was to be a guaranteed not to exceed price. We attempted to take advantage of the guaranteed not to exceed since their prices were so much lower than everyone else, and, lo and behold, the estimator did not show. My wife called and left a message with Nationwide that day, she never received a return call. When my wife returned to work the next day, she called Nationwide. At first, they attempted to lie and say their person showed but no one was home, until my wife explained she was home all day. Then Nationwide tried to reschedule the appointment, except there was no time prior to the move and we were both taking our remaining time off for this move. The salesperson went ahead and gave us our originally quoted price as the guaranteed not to exceed rate. Not a bad deal, I thought. Boy, was I mistaken. All I can say is, thank goodness Nationwide is not a pay by the hour moving company.
Nationwide Moving called my cell phone every day, three times a day, for two weeks to verify our move date. Each caller promised a call back the day before and the day of the move, I received neither. I called the day before, was told the movers would show at 9 am. On move day, no movers at 9 am, I called again and was told 11 am. No one at 11 am, I called again and was told noon, they had trouble with their truck. The movers showed at 2 pm. There were three, and two spoke horrible English. The lead guy, who spoke decent enough English, said his truck broke down so he didn't have any tools, no ropes, and was short on blankets and plastic wrap, plus, these guys weren't his usual moving crew. And, so goes this three man circus.
Nationwide told us to leave our drawers full, their professional movers could lift it without difficulty. The first piece of furniture they lifted was our very heavy dresser, by the drawer handles, broke them both clean off. Mind you, to my wife, patience is not a virtue, and the movers tardiness had already spent most of her niceties. Second was the armoire, again very heavy, and I'm surprised two of these guys were strong enough to lift their own pants to pull 'em on in the morning.
So, anyway, they tore up walls, doors, furniture, and spent the better part of 16 hours doing it. The salesperson said it would take them between 6 and 8 hours, she forgot the 2 times multiplier. If this had been an hourly rate, wed have been in for a bit of a surprise. Yes, they left our house at 6 am the following day.
This is not the horror story of others, we also spent an entire 16 hour move watching over their shoulders, it was me, my wife, and my in-laws, they were outnumbered and well supervised. Nationwide is not professional, their customer service is terrible, they obviously hire day labor instead of keeping full time moving staff, and, getting them to pay for damages is like pulling teeth from a hungry tiger. I would suggest using anyone other than Nationwide Moving. Spare us all the canned apology, too.
